Keyboard doesn't work
Hi, I've a Sony Vaio AR61ZU laptop, and since today the keyboard doesn't work. This could be a "normal" problem with the keyboard, but the keyboard works fine in the BIOS Setup and also on the Windows Start Options, so I think is not the keyboard that is broken. Any ideias? How can I debug this problem, or check keyboard hardware inputs? Regards, Pedro

Hi, work your keyboard in safemode? Try connect another keyboard and look to Device Manager -> if you see here some unknown devices, you can try update drivers.

Hi, If it works fine in Safe Mode, I would like to suggest you perform a Clean Boot in Safe Mode to test the issue. Since this issue began recently, you may also consider to perform a System Restore in System Recovery Options. What’s the result? Regards,Arthur Li - MSFT

Hi, It doesn't work in Safe Mode too. I tryied to start with a pen that has boot (it was made with HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool) and the keyboard works fine. Has I can see it just doesn't work on Windows (Windows 7 Ultimate). I can't even press ALt+Ctrl+Del to login in. I added a USB wireless keyboard (Logitech) and it works fine. In Device Manager the USB keyboard added a "HID keyboard device" under "Keyboards". If I remove the USB Keyboard this device desapears. Under Keyboards, in Device Manager, I have also "Microsoft eHome MCIR 109 Keyboard", "Microsoft eHome MCIR Keyboard", "Microsoft eHome Remote Control Keyboard keys" and "Standard PS/2 Keyboard". I tryied Safe Mode and a Clean Boot, but all has the same problem: the keyboard doesn't work. I haven't made the System Restore has Arthur sugested, because I've made lots of work last Friday, in documents and databases, that I'm avoiding to loose. But if you think it can be a solution I'm willing to try it (if there isn't another option). I also unistalled all the drivers under keyboard. After rebooted all of them were there again. Just to know, I was working with this laptop Friday till end of the day. It worked fine. Then I sht it down for the weekend. Monday morning I started it and at login screen I found that the keyboard won't work. I rebooted using On-screen keyboard and started it again. The F8 key worked fine and the start options were shown. I could move up and down. Started with Normal option but thr problem stills. I think it obvious that is not a hardware problem, because if so it wouldn't work in bios and other OS (started with the pen drive). It just doesn't work once Windows Started. So send it to Sony for repair isn't the solution. I'm sure there's a way to check this problem. I don't know... maybe reinstall the driver of the keyboard, forcing it to download thenm from internet or Windows CD. Can I? For the record, last friday I installed the Robotics studio and them the robotics studio R2, the Microsoft PEX and also the MyDVD Studio (from Sonic). I'm sure that hasn't anything with this problem. Arthur, what do you advise me to do? Performe a system restore? Is there a way to check keyboard drivers (kyb.sys I think)? Regards, Pedro

Hi, System Restore helps you restore your computer's system files to an earlier point in time. It's a way to undo system changes to your computer without affecting your personal files, such as email, documents, or photos. It is recommend to perform a System Restore to revert to the previous point to fix this issue. Regards,Arthur Li - MSFT

Hi, My problem is solved! Thanks. The restore points of Windows 7 are great! I was afraid that restoring I'll loose all changes, drivers, programs and personal files, but the restore don't affect the personal files. Very good. And the abillity to undone is great too. I restored to a previous date of the problem and saw the drivers diferences. One that I saw was the Synaptics Pointing Driver. After restored all worked fine. So, I undone the restore and uninstall the Synaptics drivers package. After reboot all works fine. Thanks for your help. Best regards, Pedro
