Keep getting 0x8001000005? error / Windows Vista
Keep getting 0x81000005 and 0x8004231F errors. Low disk space. I have tried to clean disk drive C but it seems as though recover drive D is full. Didn't know I was NOT supposed to be backing it up there until advised in forum. Can I get more space if I backup onto a flash drive or do I have to buy an external drive? Don't really want to use CD's if I don't have to. Please advise asap. Keep getting low disk space pop-ups alot. Thanks for your help, guys!David Baumgardner1 person got this answerI do too

Thanks, Colin for the advise. I am going to get a flash drive next week for my documents. How much does an external hard drive cost? I don't have alot of money right now. Wonder why Vista did not account for backups? When I had Windows XP I never had a problem like this and could backup whenever I wanted.David Baumgardner

Vista has backup programs. Click Start and type "backup" in the start/run box. Choose Backup and Restore Center at the top of the list. You can buy a 1TB external drive for around $90 and a 512GB drive for about $50 from outfits like NewEgg.Colin Barnhorst

Thanks for the info on price for an external hard drive. However, I have tried time and time again to do a backup in Vista and keep getting the error 0x8001000005 (which is low disk space) and backup fails.David Baumgardner

I suspect it is because the D: drive does not have space available (it's not supposed to) and C: is the one place you can't back up C: to. When you have another drive to use you should not have any problem. Or maybe I don't understand your system.Colin Barnhorst

Thanks, again, for your speedy response. Didn't think Windows XP would be better than Vista, but who am I to say! I will take your advice and believe you are correct that D recovery drive should not be the drive to backup to. I am going to get a flash drive to store all my documents and music to. Should be okay then I hope. Until I can afford an external hard drive, that is.David Baumgardner
