KERNELBASE.dll crash

Hello, I have recently been bumping into an issue with my PC. Every time I play the game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive the application will crash. When the crashes first occured, a couple of weeks ago, my PC had no active anti-virus program and some virus might have damaged a file(?). I recently acquired an anti-virus program called ''Avast!'' and cleaned up my PC as best I could, the error still occurs.

I had a look at the eventlog of my PC and I found several errors that surfaced once the crash occured:

This is error #1

Unfortunately, Event ID 1002 is a standard number for application crashes. What you can do is run a sfc /scannow and a CHKDSK /f (restart to start the scan) from an elevated command prompt to see if any errors can be found and fixed.

If nothing comes of that, I'd do a repair/reinstall of CS:GO.

I executed the sfc /scannow in the command promt, this is the message after it finished:

''Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios.''

I located the CBS.log but it is a rather long message, should I post the entire log from the beginning of the scan as well?

The CBS logs are hardly ever helpful other than finding out what couldn't be fixed. Often times you need to run sfc /scannow several times to fix all errors. It is possible that some files that were fixed in that scan solved your issue. For a good article on SFC, check this out.

You should run the DISM mentioned in this article as well since you are on Windows 8

I did as you recommended and afterwards there were no ''corrupted files'' or whatever found. However, about 30 minutes later, when I was switching tabs from google to a livestreaming service called 'Twitch' my PC started freezing (buzzing noise etc) and then recovered. I then received an error message in the bottom right saying something about ''Kernel Mode stopped responding and has successfully recovered'' (not an accurate description of the error message).

Once again I opened the logs but this time I found ''Warnings'' instead of Errors:

Thing is, I already uninstalled my nvidia drivers yesterday and got the latest ones, did not seem to be of any use :/

I will however attempt to do a more clean or thorough uninstall of my drivers, will update the situation afterwards

If you have the nVidia control panel installed, open it up and click on "search for updates" It'll find the latest driver for your video card, download and install it. By installing the driver through the control panel you can be sure you're getting the correct, most up to date driver.

Well, I think it is the same ones. Although not all of the uninstalled ones are back on the list. Only 2 of them, the ''NVIDIA 3D Vision Driver 353.06'' and the ''NVIDIA Graphics Driver 353.06''

The third nvidia driver is the ''NVIDIA HD Audio Driver 1.3.33.0'' which I did not manage to uninstall.

The Graphics Driver seems to be associated with the nvidia control panel however.

When I reboot nothing appears to change, except when I attempt to uninstall the ''NVIDIA Graphics Driver 353.06''. Which results in the nvidia controlpanel temporarily getting disabled and removing my digital vibrance %. In these instructions that you linked I have to pay 37? It says in the guide that its free but in the store its 37 euros. Want me to try the demo?

Did as the tutorial asked and all nvidia drivers were removed. Two were still in the list but when clicked on it said 'The specified module could not be found''

No installations are working either. The GeForce experience installation cancels and says: ''Nvidia GeForce requires an Nvidia GPU.''

And when attempting to install the

GEFORCE GAME READY DRIVER

The installer tells me: NVIDIA Installer cannot continue

This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware

Note* I did manage to uninstall the driver this time, and the nvidia control panel is gone.

nitrikk,

Sorry for my absence, I was pretty busy yesterday. Now that you have completely removed everything including the panel, my assumption is that the panel won't install because there isn't a driver for the PC to recognize your card as NVIDIA.

A system restore would be an overreaction as you'd end up in the same place you are now, Windows installed but no video driver. Two options - first would be to do as Roger Lu suggested and head over to the site and download the drivers, making absolute sure you have the correct ones.

The second would be to use the driver CD that came with your card (assuming you still have it) and then install the control panel and using its "check for updates" function to get the latest driver.
