KERNELBASE.dll crash

Hello, I have recently been bumping into an issue with my PC. Every time I play the game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive the application will crash. When the crashes first occured, a couple of weeks ago, my PC had no active anti-virus program and some virus might have damaged a file(?). I recently acquired an anti-virus program called ''Avast!'' and cleaned up my PC as best I could, the error still occurs.

I had a look at the eventlog of my PC and I found several errors that surfaced once the crash occured:

This is error #1

Unfortunately, Event ID 1002 is a standard number for application crashes. What you can do is run a sfc /scannow and a CHKDSK /f (restart to start the scan) from an elevated command prompt to see if any errors can be found and fixed.

If nothing comes of that, I'd do a repair/reinstall of CS:GO.

I executed the sfc /scannow in the command promt, this is the message after it finished:

''Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios.''

I located the CBS.log but it is a rather long message, should I post the entire log from the beginning of the scan as well?

You need to run DISM to fix the errors.  Instructions for which are at the end of this wiki

The CBS logs are hardly ever helpful other than finding out what couldn't be fixed. Often times you need to run sfc /scannow several times to fix all errors. It is possible that some files that were fixed in that scan solved your issue. For a good article on SFC, check this out.

You should run the DISM mentioned in this article as well since you are on Windows 8

I did as you recommended and afterwards there were no ''corrupted files'' or whatever found. However, about 30 minutes later, when I was switching tabs from google to a livestreaming service called 'Twitch' my PC started freezing (buzzing noise etc) and then recovered. I then received an error message in the bottom right saying something about ''Kernel Mode stopped responding and has successfully recovered'' (not an accurate description of the error message).

Once again I opened the logs but this time I found ''Warnings'' instead of Errors:

nvlddmkm is an Nvidia driver, it seems to be having issues. I'd suggest completely removing it and downloading the latest version for your specific video card. Keep us updated.
June 30th, 2015 1:00pm

Thing is, I already uninstalled my nvidia drivers yesterday and got the latest ones, did not seem to be of any use :/

I will however attempt to do a more clean or thorough uninstall of my drivers, will update the situation afterwards

How old is your video card?
June 30th, 2015 1:25pm

My video card is: Nvidia GeForce 780, about 2 years old, maybe more.

If reinstalling the drivers doesn't work I'd take two different paths.

1. Try installing the drivers from nVidia's site rather than through the control panel, as a matter of fact I'd remove the control panel completely as a test.If you have been installing the drivers from the site, try doing so from the control panel.

2. Take out the video card and run some games on the integrated card to see if the issue persists. Might need to put CSGO on minimal graphics and deal with some low FPS for awhile. Just be sure to let me know what server you're playing on so I can come take advantage of your disadvantage! ;)

June 30th, 2015 1:47pm

Previously I installed them from their website, how would I install them from the control panel?

If you have the nVidia control panel installed, open it up and click on "search for updates" It'll find the latest driver for your video card, download and install it. By installing the driver through the control panel you can be sure you're getting the correct, most up to date driver.

I attempted to uninstall all nvidia drivers but they keep coming back after restarting the PC?
June 30th, 2015 2:41pm

Ok, are they the same drivers that you uninstalled? Or are they drivers Windows installs in order to make your video card initially work? (Like when you first install a new video card)

If they are the same drivers follow these instructions to completely remove the drivers.

Well, I think it is the same ones. Although not all of the uninstalled ones are back on the list. Only 2 of them, the ''NVIDIA 3D Vision Driver 353.06'' and the ''NVIDIA Graphics Driver 353.06''

The third nvidia driver is the ''NVIDIA HD Audio Driver 1.3.33.0'' which I did not manage to uninstall.

The Graphics Driver seems to be associated with the nvidia control panel however.

When you reboot your computer after uninstalling them, is the resolution large? Or is it the same resolution as when you rebooted before uninstalling the drivers? If the resolution doesn't change the drivers aren't uninstalled correctly. Make sure to follow the instructions I linked above to completely uninstall them. Then reinstall them via the control panel and see if the errors continue.

Wait, what? It should be a Steam page that has a 7 step instruction on how to completely remove drivers with a link to a free driver removal tool. Is that what you see when you click on this?

Did as the tutorial asked and all nvidia drivers were removed. Two were still in the list but when clicked on it said 'The specified module could not be found''

No installations are working either. The GeForce experience installation cancels and says: ''Nvidia GeForce requires an Nvidia GPU.''

And when attempting to install the

GEFORCE GAME READY DRIVER

The installer tells me: NVIDIA Installer cannot continue

This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware

Note* I did manage to uninstall the driver this time, and the nvidia control panel is gone.

hello?
July 1st, 2015 9:30am

Hi,

The NVIDIA driver failed is probably caused by driver edition doesn't match the hardware. Please check its official website carefully and download the correct driver for test. If problem persists, you can check system restore point and restore your system to a former normal time point.
