Hi! I was checking my updates, and found KB974431 a reliability update had failed. So I uninstalled it. Used the "readiness tool". Both CheckSur, and CheckSur persist logs report: Checking System Update Readiness. Binary Version 6.1.7600.20751 Package Version 9.0 2010-10-21 16:26 Checking Windows Servicing Packages Checking Package Manifests and Catalogs Checking Package Watchlist Checking Component Watchlist Checking Packages Checking Component Store Summary: Seconds executed: 299 No errors detected I went back to windows update, and preformed an automatic check for updates. It found I needed KB974431, and this time it installed successfully, but I still have it listed as failed also. Would it hurt to leave it that way or should I run the "reset tool"? Hi, please run the Windows Explorer and go to the folder "C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\" and copy the file "CBS.log" to your document folder (otherwise you can't open it) and open it with notepad. I do not understand what is happening. It sure looks like the one I was working with. It has dates from Last Thursday 10-14, and this Thursday, Friday, and Today. 10-21, 10-22, 10-23. But I will do what you request. First, I want to be sure of your instructions. "Stop the update service" How should I do that properly? go to > Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Update\Change settings , and set it to "Never check for updates"? Then go to the folder "SoftwareDistribution", and name the whole folder "SoftwareDistribution.old"? Then go back to > Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Update\Change settings, and change it back to "Install updates automatically", and force an update? If I understand correctly; this will create a new Softwaredistribution Folder in C:\Windows. Will it also create a new CBS file that you would like me to upload?
