Is this a Dell computer ? If the answer is yes, open Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. Is Roxio DLA showing in the list of installed Programs ? If it is, suggest you either uninstall it or visit Dell.com to see if there is an update for it. That will allow KB967715 to install properly.MowGreen Update Services - Consumer Security

Fine. Is Roxio DLA showing in the list of Add/Remove Programs ? That's what is preventing the update from installing properly. You could attempt to manually download and save the update, boot to Safe Mode, and then install it. But, if Roxio's DLA is installed the registry setting that the update sets will be reset by Roxio's DLA and you will be prompted to install the update once more. You can download the update from this MS Download Center page . A description of the Safe Mode options in Windows XP Let us know how you get on. MowGreen. Thank you for the advice, the only Roxio I have is ROXIO EASY DVD COPY 4.This I have uninstalled, the rest of your advice is a bit out of my experience, will wait till daughter visits again, in the meantime I will ignore the little yellow download notice in bottom right hand screen. Many thanks for your advice, most appreciated. moron shallotman

Once Roxio is uninstalled the update should install properly. If you do not copy or burn CDs or DVDs, then Roxio need not be reinstalled. By the way, there are free programs that will do that without causing updating issues. And, the update in question is not a Critical Security update. Not installing it won't cause the system to crash, it's just an update that enhances it's Security. And, no, you are not a moron. All your trying to do is to use your computer. Unfortunately, the people who code software and the computers' manufacturers tend to ignore that fact.MowGreen Update Services - Consumer Security

MowGreen. I spoke to soon, it's back again. Have tried deleting it from the Control Panel, the idea being reloading it manually, but I am informed that it is not deletable. I am puzzled that as I am on automatic updates, why does this appear at the bottom of the screen repeatable for manual updating. shallotman

Open Automatic Update in Control Panel. Is it set to download and install updates automatically on a schedule or download updates automatically so that you can decide when to install them ? If KB967715 is listed in Add/Remove Programs then please open Folder Options , also in Control Panel. Click the View tab. Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders . Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders . Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types . Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files . Press the Apply button and then the OK button. Using Windows Explorer ( Start > All Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer ), navigate to WINDOWS\system32 Check the Version of shell32.dll by right clicking it, choose Properties , and then click the Version tab. For XP SP2 , shell32.dll should be at Version 6.0.2900.3402 IF the update partially installed but did not set the registry subkey that is included with KB967715 For XP SP3 , shell32.dll should be at Version 6.0.2900.5622 IF the update partially installed but did not set the registry subkey that is included with KB967715, IF shell32.dll is now at the proper Version, open Notepad . Copy & paste the text inside of the lines into it: ================================================================================ Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer] "HonorAutoRunSetting"=dword:00000001 ================================================================================ Make sure Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 is at the *very top* of the file to be saved. Click File , Save As , name the file HonorAutoRun , click the drop down arrow next to Save as Type and choose All Files , click the Save button. *Right* click HonorAutoRun.reg and choose Merge . You should get a message that information in the file has been successfully merged into the registry. Next, when the automatic update icon appears at the bottom right in the Notification Area, dpuble left click on it and UN check the box next to it. Click OK. When the next window opens put a check mark in the box next to " Do not offer me these updates again ", click OK. That will hide any reoffering of KB967715. As long as the file in question, shell32.dll , is at the correct Version and the registry setting has been made, then the update is now installed properly. No problem, shallotman. As I stated previously, this is not a Critical Security update. Just be careful with the USB devices that you hook up to your system ( thumb drives and external Hard Drives ).MowGreen Update Services - Consumer Security

You're mowst welcome. If you ever feel up to it, then manually create a System Restore point and see if you can follow the previous instructions. If things do not work out you can always use that manually created restore point to undo what you've done.MowGreen Update Services - Consumer Security

Thank you, MowGreen, for your solution. It worked for our Dell computer on XP. We had this problem for a year or more. It did not affect the computer's operation, but it was a constant annoyance. I uninstalled Roxio DLA three days ago and rebooted. The KB967715 automatic update message has not appeared since then. I am an 81 year-old computer user. -- Leroy1929
