KB2530548 IE 9 update breaks non-html links in CHM files
After installing the KB2530548 IE update, opening a CHM-internal non-html link (e.g. test.doc) crashes the calling application (e.g. hh.exe). I tested it on Windows Vista and Windows 7 with IE 9: Problemereignisname: APPCRASH Anwendungsname: hh.exe Anwendungsversion: 6.0.6000.16386 Anwendungszeitstempel: 4549b636 Fehlermodulname: ieframe.dll Fehlermodulversion: 9.0.8112.16430 Fehlermodulzeitstempel: 4db20fec Ausnahmecode: c0000005 Ausnahmeoffset: 001ad30a Betriebsystemversion: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.256.1 Gebietsschema-ID: 1031 Zusatzinformation 1: 80e9 Zusatzinformation 2: 42f328148e2791ba219e4df7ab81327b Zusatzinformation 3: 4ceb Zusatzinformation 4: 7474c4271b0b8ec7dc7ff0e36483216b See http://www.ld-didactic.de/software/kb2530548.zip as an example. Has anybody else had this issue and found a fix?

After installing the KB2530548 IE update, opening a CHM-internal non-html link (e.g. test.doc) crashes the calling application (e.g. hh.exe). I tested it on Windows Vista and Windows 7 with IE 9: Has anybody else had this issue and found a fix? We are having the exact same problem and have not yet found a fix or a workaround. I suspect is has something to do with the KB2534409 fix that was included in the KB2530548 security update. It also appears to only effect IE 9, IE 8 system's continue to work fine even after applying the security update.

Hi Alex, nothing happens on https://connect.microsoft.com/IE/feedback/details/676951/kb2530548-ie-9-update-breaks-non-html-links-in-chm-files for the last 8 weeks. Until now I have to tell all our customers to uninstall the IE 9 in order to have full access to our help files. Do you have another idea to solve this issue? Thanks Michael

Yeah, any update? We ave having this issue to. Its especially bad since it crashes the app that triggered the chm. chm files are the best format that meets all our requirements despite it being legacy. Id like to see MHTML handle 100mb of documentation, or something similar without needing to be extracted or have a viewer that is not on everyone's computer already. Pleases don't break chm files until MS help viewer 1.0, Help 3, or whatever its called becomes a viable solution with mainstream user support or is seamlessly distributable.

Over 4 months and no action, solution, or even acknowledgment of known issue in the security bulletin? Come on, let face it this is never going to get resolved. Time for software venders to start making more and more ad hock help systems that emulate what CHM once did fine since Microsoft has clearly terminated any support or development on CHM while not providing any alternative. Sure there the VS help and stuff but that stuff still is not fully developed and mainstream on every windows computer.
