KB2524375 on W7 64bit system destroyed network access, help!
Hello, Since last weekend, after Security patch KB2524375 was installed on all of our W7 64 bit systems the network neighborhood view shows only the computer. No NAS, no other computer just the computer itself. When I enter the computer name and shared drive in the explorer window I can get to the computer but that is not acceptable for our office. What setting did this @@@@ patch screw around to nail everything so shut? Our network uses workgroup and has been working great - until last weekend. Please, any idea to fix this disaster is greatly appreciated. Thanks Harry

Hi hpigler, Thanks for the post! I checked this update on my computer, this update is to keep the systems certificates list up to date. And the shared drive worked fine on my computer. What's the error message you got when you access the shared drive? Did you find any related logs in your Event Viewer? Try to re-share that drive to check if it works. You can also temporarily uninstall that update, then re-share the drive and see the result. Thank you for your reply. Here is what happens: I don't see any other computer under network neighborhood. If I enter the computer name and share I can still access the computer/file server but I don't see them anymore. It happened at the same time this patch was installed. Now I don't know it down to the minute but I think it could be related. I uninstalled the patch on two computers but that did not do anything to improve the situation. So I am not sure anymore if this is really the culprit. As a next step, once everyone is gone tonight, I will restart each and every component on the network. Every hub, firewall, computer, printer - everything. I will let you know what I find out. Thanks Harry

Hi Harry, Thanks for the update. Before you check all your settings, since you mentioned you cannot see any other computer under network neighborhood, I recommend you check if the Network Discovery is enalbed. Click Start - Control Panel - Network and Sharing Center, click Change advanced sharing settings. Enable the option. In addition, did you have the backup point before the update was installed. As a test, you can restore a test computer to a former time, then manually install the update, after that check if the issue happen. This could determine wether this update is the culprit. Thank you Miya! I checked the network settings multiple times - that was why I was so frustrated. When I was looking at my network neighborhood I saw one of my routers, one file server which is also a media server. After restarting each and every component on the network (file server, fire wall, switches, computers - everything) it started to work again! No idea what could have caused this but it is working again. Since I could connect to the computers by entering the path I first did not think about resetting the network. Any way, thank you for help. Regards Harry

Hi, That update needs restart after you installed it. Did you restart after that? Anyway, glad to hear the issue is solved. Have a nice day. Miya, I did restart, countless times. I am not sure what really was the cause but it wasn't the patch. Since the problem is solved I will mark it as "solved". Thank you for your help. Harry
