KB2479943
Strongly suspect this security update is causing a conflict in USB ports in Win7 64 Home. USB external drive and USB Cisco Valet Connector are not recognized. Anyone else having this problem?

this security update updates the MPEG2 codecs and has nothing to do with USB. Have you installed the Sp1 over Windows Update? If yes, you may be affected by this bug. run linked 7601USBFix: The Windows 7 SP1 USB Driver Bug (what it is and how to fix it) "A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" Want to install RSAT on Windows 7 Sp1? Thanks for your help. Your answer seems to fit my problem. However, my problem was resolved by restoring the system to prior KB2479943 installation. I'll give it a few days and see what happens.

I don't understand why this update should cause USB issues. I had issues with this update also, it knocked out my wireless internet connection. But when I restore to a point prior to this update everything is fine. Go figure.

It would be wise to post this information, perhaps with a disclaimer that it isn't guaranteed to work for everyone and should only be done if people with Windows 7 64-bit OS are unable to install KB2479943. Issue: Unable to install KB2479943, Windows Update fails upon installation attempt when using Windows 7 64-bit version, anything from Premium to Ultimate. Solution: Install the following updates prior to installing KB2479943 and then it will install successfully: KB2645640 KB2654428 KB2660465 KB2660075 KB2640148 Failure to install these updates may result in random restarts due to corrupted sbe.dll file related to graphical subsystem of Windows 7 and DirectX. Additional Data: The following information/errors are found in CBS.log located in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log CSI 00000147 [SR] Cannot repair member file [l:14{7}]"sbe.dll" of Microsoft-Windows-StreamBufferEngine, Version = 6.1.7601.17514, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, file cannot be checked This file was corrupted from an earlier Win7 update, however it is corrected upon installation of the above mentioned updates, which then allow the installation of KB2479943 which will then install the correct files and repair this issue.
