How to back up and restore the registry in Windows
Click Start , click Run , type regedit , and then click
OK . Locate and then click the following subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters
Right-click Parameters , point to New , and then click
DWORD Value . Type TcpKeepAliveTimeout, and then press ENTER to name the new entry.
Right-click TcpKeepAliveTimeout , and then click Modify
. In the Value data box, type 60, and then click
OK .
This value indicates the time interval (in seconds) to send Keepalives on an idle connection. We recommend that you set this value to
60 seconds. However, you can reduce or increase this time-out value according to your requirement.
Note Windows Server 2003 client sends SMB echo at an interval of 30 seconds. Therefore, we do not recommend that you to set this value to below 30 seconds as it may increase bandwidth usage.
Exit Registry Editor.
Restart requirement

This hot fix is part of service pack 1. The question is do I need the registry changes after a clean install of 2008 r2 with sp1. If so why didn't they include it in sp1.Randy Nelson
