Just upgraded to Windows 7, internet constantly drops.
Hi, I recently upgraded from Vista x64 to Windows 7 x64, and my USB wireless adapter is having major issues connection to wireless internet. I've tried my Belkin USB adapter (which actually doesn't work on ANY computer anymore...hoping it was just a coincidence) and my Netgear WPN111 wireless adapter is having issues as well. The main problem seems to be inconsistency in connecting to the wireless network. Usually my computer will start up connected to the internet fine, but depending on the size and intensity of using the internet, the connection will go to limited connectivity then not recognize any networks at all and the only way of "fixing" the problem is restarting the computer only to repeat the process once again. I am very frustrated at this point, because I've tried pretty much every fix I could Google online and haven't gotten anywhere.

I'm not sure. I upgraded the drivers to the most current ones when making the switch to Windows 7, but I'm not too computer knowledgeable so I honestly could not tell you. If there's no drivers for Windows 7 for the USB adapter I own, what would be the best one to purchase so I don't have to deal with this issue any more?

Hi Andy1ua, After researching from the Netgear Website, I find that they have not released the Netgear WPN111 USB wireless adapter driver for Windows 7. I would like to suggest you install their latest version of the Netgear WPN111 wireless adapter driver under compatibility mode. Note: The third-party product discussed here is manufactured by a company that is independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability. Install driver under compatibility mode & Administrator level ===================================== 1.Right click on the exe file for driver and click Properties. 2.Click on the Compatibility tab. 3.Select Run this program in compatibility mode for. 4.Choose Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) from the drop down list. 5.Select Run this program as an administrator option under the Privilege Level topic. 6.Click Apply, click OK. 7. Please double click on the exe file again. If it does not work, you may contact Netgear Support for when they will release the driver for Windows 7 or purchase a Windows 7 compatible wireless adapter. Thanks for the suggestion...I actually tried that with no success. I ended up going out and getting a new Linksys Wireless N adapter. I've had the issue a couple of times, but not as frequently as it was happening. The joys of Windows 7.

Try disabling realtime protection in Windows Security Essentials I had the exact same issue on my Windows 7 64 bit install. After hours of searching to see what was causing the issue, I found that Windows Security Essentials was the problem. Internet started working normal again after disabling realtime protection. Since my internet worked just fine after just installing Windows 7, it's probably some update to security essentials that messed some things up. Let me know if this solves your issues...
