Joining samba domain still fails
I have tried to join Windows 7 RC 7100 to my Samba domain at home, but it fails with "The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "domain": The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.". I can join other systems to the domain, so the problem appears to be with Windows 7. Any ideas what could I try?

Yes, I was able to join my samba domain in the end, found instructions on some samba list. First, you need at least Samba 3.3.4, and second, you need to change the following registry keys: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters] "DomainCompatibilityMode"=dword:00000001 "DNSNameResolutionRequired"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Netlogon\Parameters] "RequireStrongKey"=dword:00000000

ender9, If your still around. Can you describe the network environment you have? And provide the specific details and procedures you executed to make Windows 7 and the Samba PDC work together. I've tried those registry settings but it didn't work. So there must be more to it than just making those registry changes. I've searched the Internet for days and weeks. It seems that the only answer is to modify those two registry keys. Questions: - What version of Samba are you running - What Linux OS are you running - Did you compile Samba yourself - Did you use any special compile options - What smb.conf options are you using - Are you using LDAP to autheticate between Windows and Samba - Did you setup a DNS server on your Linux server - Other than the stated Windows registry changes, did you set/reset anything else in Windows The key for me is to attempt to create the same network environment as you. Then I know I should successfully create a Samba PDC/Windows computing environment.
