Joining a domain issue
When attempting to add my windows 7 computer to my windows Server 2003 domain, i get an error on the 7 machine saying that an "attempt to resolve the DNS name of a domain controller in the domain being joined has failed. PLease verify tis client is configured to reach a DNS server that can resolve DNS names in the target domain."

Hello amcurrent,Set the preferred DNS on your NIC card to be the IP address of the server. To test the DNS service on the server from a command prompt type: nslookup_mydomain.com. (replace underscore with a space and mydomain with the FQDN of your domain)

You may also want to check that your DNS server has correct Reverse DNS entries too...

I had the exact same problem and this solution from SaMcp1123 worked for me. Thank you!I went to Network and Sharing Center --> in right panel clicked on "Change Adapter Settings" ---> right click the icon then properties. For my adapter I went to the properties of IpV4 and manually put in the IP address of the domain server. When I went back to rename the computer and put it into our domain, it worked and was welcome finally into the domain. Thanks again SaMcp1123
