When I attempt to install Java from Java.com to W8.1 am receiving a .com file that I cannot open. What gives??

I've been having this exact problem for about 48 hours on multiple machines in multiple locations.  I routinely make sure java is up to date for any of my customers who use it and every machine running Windows above Vista is receiving a setup file with a .com extension.  It is not happening on Windows below 7 and does not happen when using Chrome

If you are continuing to experience this issue, I would suggest downloading the offline installer for Java installations. The offline installers for Java are available here.
