Issues with XP SP3 set with two accounts: It loses an account and often freezes due to "insufficient resources"
I have a Gateway GT5224 computer with a Pentium D 915 processor, Dual core 64bit, running XP SP 3 Media Center Edition 2005.For the past month or so I have been having the following issues with my computer that seem to begin around some updates from June 20-30, 2010:1. If one person is logged in on one of the two accounts created, it lets them log off but will come to a log on window that says "Owner" and expects a password. Neither of the two accounts have passwords.2. Also it will freeze on one side and not let you open any applications even when none are open and gives the error "Insufficient resources available" to open the application.3. It then will not let me do a start/shutdown, so I have to use the power button to power down and up and then it will operate normally for a while. It is frustration. I have had the computer since 12/2006 and it has been running fine up until this time. Not quite economically ready to purchase a new tower.I hope there is a fix for this. I cannot upgrade to Windows 7 on this machine without a lot of expense and headache of backing up data and re-installation process. Please help when you get some time.SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME! ThanksOrlando 1 person needs an answerI do too

First do thorough scanning for malware to make sure you're working from a clean base.http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_MalwareIf the computer is clean, I would test at least the hard drive and the RAM.http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Hardware_TshootAnd finally, if none of those tests are conclusive and you really feel that Windows Updates were responsible, you can get free tech support from Microsoft:For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY (and/or 1-866-234-6020 and/or 1-800-936-5700) in the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft subsidiary. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with security updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is related to a Security Update and cite the update's KB number (e.g., KB977165). (Thanks to MVP PA Bear for this information.)If you are not in the United States or Canada, there are local support contact numbers here:http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspxUpgrading to a different operating system on a problematic computer is a recipe for disaster so this is not an option for you in any case.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
