Issue with notebook Wireless Atheros card on 7
Hi everybody! Last sunday I've upgraded my notebook HP Pavilion dv5 (amd processor) from Windows Vista to 7 (64-bit). Although i've managed to install all the recent drivers for system and network i've got an issue with the embedded Atheros Wifi AR5007 card. The adapter is correctly shown and recognised by the system and LAN network works great, but i've noticed that the HW switch is turned off, not allowing the wifi to work. The problem is correlated probably to the wifi touch-button on the top of laptop's keybord which don't work on this new Windows 7 and remain orange. On Vista I used to touch it and it coloured Blue enabling wifi receiver. The 7 troubleshooting report tells "Wireless capability is turned off (Radio is off. HW Switch)" but since I don't know how to make it works I'm stuck. I was looking for someone who knows Command Prompt in order to use a command to manually activate the wireless card OR an ACPI upgrade or driver that makes useful the touch-switch (the others buttons do work, only the wifi one doesn't). Can you give me any hint or solutions? Thanks very much!!

Hi,You need the quicklaunch button software. It appears HP has all of the drivers for Windows 7 for your computer. You'll need the full model number ie. Pavilion DV-5-1108el. Windows 7 32-bit drivers and softwarefor that model are here.Go to HP.com and choose the support option for your specific model-find drivers and software for 32 or 64-bit Windows 7-download and install.

Thank you very much!! I used to look for that drivers in HP site but under the voice "Windows 7(64-bit)" there wasn't the "HP Quick Launch Buttons" driver. Usually 32bit-based drivers don't work on 64 but I've tried seeing that the laptop in your link has that. Problem resolved! Windows 7 fully operational! Thanks, bye!

I am sorry. There are 64-bit drivers. I wanted you to search HP Support with your correct model number and Windows version. Here is the 64-bit quick launch. You may want to install the other drivers also for the computer to be completely stable.Install the 64-bit just to be safe.Good Luck with Win 7!
