Issue with accessing files on a shared folder on Windows 2003 Server from a Windows 7 client
Hi Folks, I am running into a situation for a client. The client has decided to update some sytems and those systems come with Windows 7. I have now deployed a couple systems on the network on windows 2003 domain and everything seemed fine when first deployed. But then the clients started noticing something when accessing a shared folder that is running on a Windows 2003 server that the entire business has access to, some files they can not copy or paste or edit, does look like they can open the documents. I tested this on all the system and it looks like all the Windows 7 systems are having issues like this. So I checked the File permissions on those files and even in a couple cases added there domain accounts to the user rights of the files giving them full access and still an issue. I tested there accounts logging in from there old XP machines and they have access to the files and could copy, paste, edit and even delete the files from an XP system, but not the windows 7 system using there domain account. I have done some research the best I could find on this was some people suggesting disabling the SMB2 on the windows client, so I did try this but no luck in resolving the issue. Any ideas would help.

1. So you did the following... sc config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/nsi sc config mrxsmb20 start= disabled 2. You can play with autotuning, jumbo packets, firewall settings, ... 3. This is a bit longer procedure, but catchin network traffic may help to resolve, what communication is there. Regards Milos

Milos, I did the sc config option along with the shutting off all security including the firewall and AV that is running on the system. What is strange is that the Windows 7 systems have no issue accessing some files on the shared folder on the 2003 server but in the same share its told that the user does not have permissions, and yes I checked the permissons are fine they are the same for those that don't get access as to thones that the account does get access to. Its like the permissons are not comming across properly for some files but are for others.

Hi, Did you receive the credential authentication window when trying to access the share folder? Please let me know the exactly error message. Please change the following registry and group policy on Windows 7. [HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa] LmCompatibilityLevel DWORD 1 [Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options\Network security: LAN Manager authentication level] Please change to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated". Niki, The here is a screen shot of the error message. I will try the changes you suggest in the registry and in the GPO and will post the results shortly.

Niki, No change the registry setting needed a change but the Local Policy was already set to Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated. Is it possible that there needs to be something set up on the fileserver this sits on as well?

Hi, Please take the ownership of the file on server. 1. Right click the picture, select Properties. 2. On Security tab, click Advanced button. 3. On Owner tab, please click Edit, and change the owner to this problematic account.
