Issue blocking me from connecting to internet
Hello there, Sometimes when my connection disconnects, my windows 7 home premium thinks that I'm still connected so I can't reconnect to internet untill I reboot my computer which's pretty annoying. As you can see in the screenshot bellow, the network's tray icon appears as if I was still connected so there's nothing I can do untill I have rebooted : http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/9960/trayicon.png I'd appreciate any kind of help, thanks.

Thanks for your answer Prachand. I already use the latest drivers, and when try executing the command you told me after following the steps, I get this error in return : "L'erreur système 1376 s'est produite. Le groupe local spécifié n'existe pas." It says : the specified localgroup doesn't exist. I use a french version maybe that matters?

Firstly I would suggest you to download the latest network adaptor drivers from the manufacturer’s website and install the same on the computer. In addition, I would also suggest you to try these steps in command and check whether it helps. 1. Click on start 2. Type in cmd in search box 3. Right click on command prompt and click on Run as administrator. 4. In the elevated command prompt type in Net localgroup Administrators localservice /add and hit enter.

Are there any errors showing up in the event logs at the time your computer disconnects? You say you already have the latest drivers - are those from the computer manufacturer or the network chipset manufacturer? It looks like you're on a wired connection; maybe your router/modem is dropping on the WAN side but your LAN side is remaining connected. Are there any other computers on your network you could try PINGing when you lose your Internet? If not, try PINGing your router when this happens and see it it is actually still connected.

Hey Bob, I meant the latest drivers for my adsl modem, because I use a modem which's directly connected to my computer by USB. My computer isn't linked to a network. I can see it when the connection drops by watching the lights on my modem's interface, but windows shows up as connected so I can't reconnect untill I've rebooted :(

I see; then it's a USB issue and not really network related. You might try updating your mainboard's chipset drivers if you don't already have the most current ones; also check and see if there's an updated BIOS for your computer. There's also the remote possibility that your DSL modem could be faulty. When you say you reboot, do you mean just the computer or the modem as well?

Unplugging/Replugging my modem doesn't fix the problem so yea I meant rebooting my computer which's very annoying

I don't know what model your modem is, but a quick search showed me that you're not alone. Many people seem to be having similar issues with USB DSL and cable modems, particularly some D-Link models. If feasible you might want to consider contacting your ISP and swapping for one that uses an Ethernet connection. Besides, Ethernet's potentially faster than a USB connection anyway. (I know there's a USB Hotfix - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976972 - that you can get from Microsoft, but I'm not sure it's applicable here.)

well if you think that switching to Ethernet would solve the problem, then I should consider doing it this way. btw, do you have any clue about how I could bypass this problem temporarily without having to reboot all the time? thanks for your answers man !

Nope, sorry. You could try the Hotfix, but as I said, it might not apply to your situation (it won't hurt though). If your modem already has an Ethernet port, just plug into that. Although switching to Ethernet will definitely solve this problem, it'll probably bring a few of its own, especially if you've never had to configure it before.
