Is this product discrimination against consumers?
Dear Microsoft, I'm a normal consumer who bought a laptop with pre-installed windows 7 home basic in China, it costs me 700 US dollars to get it, meanwhile, on the US market, it only costs anyone 650 dollars to get a same laptop but with windows 7 home PREMIUM pre-installed, this is very disturbing as you supply only home basics to developing nations, but the laptop manufactures charge the same (or even higher) to the consumers in those regions as to consumers in rich areas (but rich area consumers get PREMIUM). I hope you realize how severely lethal this coporate policy is, the crooked laptop manufacturers are ripping off benefits from your so called "price discrimination" policy among different regions. Intellectual property rights are not well protected in China, consumers rarely buy retailed version windows 7 from stores, OEM sales of windows 7 should be your main revenue in China, now how could you expect consumers in China to buy your OEM products when they realized it actually costs them less to get a GENUINE PREMIUM elsewhere??? Even if say, average consumers in China are stucked in China, they can always choose not to spend MORE to get a BASIC, can't they? Please stop this suicidal corporate policy, and supply OEM windows 7 home PREMIUM to all Chinese consumers, as price there is even HIGHER.

I don't really feel this is a proper place for this rant? Possibly this is something that should have been thought about before purchasing the laptop overseas? While yes it may suck to have to pay a premium price for legit software, it really is the only way to go. Also, aren't most manufacturers the ones who set their prices? Maybe this is a better reserved for an email to the manufacturer as opposed to the software provider.MCITP, Network+

It is the laptop manufacturer in charge of pricing, not Microsoft. The laptop is simply costing more to buy in China due to other factors such as taxes. Typically, products in the US are cheaper than most other country's. Microsoft is charging less for Windows 7 Home Basic in China compared to Windows 7 Home Premium in the US by a significant amount. Just as an example, consumer electronics often cost 15-25% more in my country (Canada) compared to the US, for the exact same thing.
