Is there anyway to find out why my computer crashed?
Hi, i have a brand spanking new desktop PC with Windows 7 bit 64 bit preloaded. It's about 2 weeks old now and yesterday, the computer just crashed! It just switched off all by itself without warning (as if there was a powercut) I've checked the temps of the hard drives and CPU and they are fine... but would liek to know why it crashed. Could it have been a hardware failure? If so, i'd liek to take it back and get it fixed as it's still under warrenty. Thanks in advance.

AdminCasper, the recent crashes appear to be caused by the kmxfw.sys, which appears to be is a driver for CA Antivirus. Try uninstalling CA Antivirus and see if the blue screens resolve. Afterward you can reinstall CA Antivirus using the latest version or go with other security software such as Microsoft Security Essentials If any BSODs reoccur I would suggest to start a new topic for clarity and better help. Include a link to the minidump files.

Hi Asmodeus Cruentus, What I would suggest is to start a new thread on the problem to get the best help. And it may help if you could provide the minidump files in the C:\Windows\Minidump folder which you could upload and share using Windows Live SkyDrive or similar site.

Hi matthew_jacobs, The driver which caused the crash was the klif.sys: BUCKET_ID: X64_0x7E_klif+4485c The klif.sys is a Kaspersky driver so try uninstalling Kaspersky and see if the crashes resolve. Afterward you could reinstall Kaspersky using the latest version or go with other security software such as Microsoft Security Essentials.

Hello all, My computer crashed 2 days ago. While I was using it and installing a downloaded game, some weird lines started appearing on the screen, and on the next reboot I was greeted with the Blue Screen Of Death, not being able to boot the computer. I am using Windows Vista, and I know this is a Windows 7 forum, but I wasn't able to find any help. I am writing for my computer in Safe Mode, barely being able to see due to those weird lines n the screen with weird colours and poor resolution. I have uploaded my Minidump files to SkyDrive: https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=ba974f0de5f36807&resid=BA974F0DE5F36807!148&parid=root Let me know if you can't read them. Please help me find out what caused my problem, or redirect me to the appropiate forum. I have deleted the downloaded game and uninstalled it, and Avast, after many long scans, does not find any infected files.

Dear auggy, Thank you very much for your quick reply. Thank you for the information you gave me on the origin of my computer's problems. It does seem to be the NVIDIA display driver causing the error, as during one of my many reboots the display had lost the annoying vertical bars in Safe Mode, and on the next reboot in Normal Mode the computer actually booted up without problems. Unfortunately this was an isolated case, and after 5 minutes of use the computer went back to it's crashed state described in my previous post. I have tried to fix the problem by downloading the latest driver from the NVIDIA website, but the installation wizard did not find a compatible hardware. I double-checked if I downloaded the right driver (which was the case), and after some research on the web it turns out that I need a driver distributed by Sony. I looked around their website and again a Google search, but I couldn't find it, and doesn't seem like Sony has released one. If it is a hardware issue, then I will probably give up, as the computer is quite old, and I will have to pay for a repair, quite expensively according to the forum you have led me to and some research. I will have to buy another computer, and even though this one was, as i said before quite old, it is still very annoying having to replace quite expensive equipment every 4-5 years. I will try to call Sony, but they are only open on weekdays, so it will have to wait for monday. Once again thank you for your advice, analysis of my dump file, and quick reply. paperplane65

Hi Bpedersen, Are you still having issues? If so, you may want to start a new topic. Also, the link to the dump files does not appear to work. Make sure the dump files are in a "public folder" "shared with everyone".

Hi Auggy I have been having a crash every week or so and came across this site (thankfully) where I hope you guys can tell me what is going on. I turned on the mini dump setting about a week ago and today the crash happened again. I went into the SystemRoot per the instructions but when I try to copy the mini dump file (there's only one) to the desktop or another directory, I get a message "You require permission from Administrators to make changes to this file." The problem is, there is only one user account set up on this PC and it's an administrator account. I just confirmed that. Any ideas? Thanks, Mike

Try copying the minidump file(s) this way: First, create a folder on the Desktop and call it Minidumps Then open the C:\Windows\Minidump folder and do the following: Organize > Select All > Organize > Copy The open the Minidumps folder on the Desktop do the following: Organize > Paste

Hi Auggy, I came across this thread when trying to search for solutions on computer crashes. And I was wondering whether you can help me on mine too. My computer occasionally crashes when I tried to run many programs at once. It doesn't have to be programs, when I tried to open tabs in my Internet Browser, my computer crashes as well. Here's my link to my skydrive https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=c493b8265e22d688&resid=C493B8265E22D688!1215&parid=C493B8265E22D688!1168 Thank you so much.

Hi dread89, The minidump files showed various stop errors such as SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (3b) and PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (50). Because the cause of the errors is not obvious I would suggest you start a new topic on the issue to get better help. I would suggest though, if you haven't already, check the physical RAM with a memory tester such as Memtest86+ or Windows Memory Diagnostic.
