Is there anyway to find out why my computer crashed?
Hi, i have a brand spanking new desktop PC with Windows 7 bit 64 bit preloaded. It's about 2 weeks old now and yesterday, the computer just crashed! It just switched off all by itself without warning (as if there was a powercut) I've checked the temps of the hard drives and CPU and they are fine... but would liek to know why it crashed. Could it have been a hardware failure? If so, i'd liek to take it back and get it fixed as it's still under warrenty. Thanks in advance.

Hi,I have some points to confirm. When and how did the crash happen? Were you playing a game or trying to launch a program? Are there any error messages when you restart your computer? There’re a lot of reasons to cause the crash of your computer. I will tell you some, and you can check your computer. If the computer failed to pass the POST, pls record the beep and check it in the manual for detailed error.First, it may be caused by your memory or the display card. When your computer have run for a long time, it may crash if your memory or display card is not stable enough.Second, it may be caused by your CPU temp. Although you said you have checked your CPU, but the check must happen after a period of time. Your motherboard may have overheating protection. Third, it may be caused by some virus or your computer is attacked by someone. The virus may force your computer to shut down. You can use some anti-virus software (such as Norton) to perform a full scan. After you enter your system, pls do the steps below to collect a mini dump file. =================1. Click "Start", input "SYSDM.CPL" (without quotation marks) in the “Search” bar and press “Enter”.2. Switch to the "Advanced" tab and click the "Settings" button under "Startup and Recovery". 3. Under "Write debugging information" section, make sure the "Small memory dump (128KB)" option is selected. 4. Make sure "%SystemRoot%\Minidump" is in the "Small dump directory" open box and click “OK”. If the Blue Screen appears again, please refer to the following steps to collect memory dump files: 1. Click “Start”, type “%SystemRoot%\Minidump" (without quotation marks) in “Search” bar and press “Enter”.2. Go to your Desktop, right-click on it and create a new folder named "Dump".3. Copy all the memory dump files (looks like [Mini092008-01.dmp]) in Minidump to this folder.4. Right-click on the Dump folder, click "Send To", and click "Compressed (zipped) Folder". Pls upload the file to your skydrive (public folder). If the issue persists, please upload the minidump file (%systemroot%\minidump) to SkyDrive ( www.skydrive.live.com ), then share the link to me. I will be glad to assist you to analysis the data.

AdminCasper, the recent crashes appear to be caused by the kmxfw.sys, which appears to be is a driver for CA Antivirus. Try uninstalling CA Antivirus and see if the blue screens resolve. Afterward you can reinstall CA Antivirus using the latest version or go with other security software such as Microsoft Security Essentials If any BSODs reoccur I would suggest to start a new topic for clarity and better help. Include a link to the minidump files.
