Is there any setting in Windows 7 to change the value for this registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentC ontrolSet\Control\Terminal Server\AllowRemoteRPC?
I want to send message to Windows 7 machine from another Windows machine using MSG.EXE. In order to make it work, I have to change the value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\AllowRemoteRPC from 0 to 1 on the Windows 7 machine. First, is there any interface to change that value besides using regedit? Second, what is the effect of changing the value from 0 to 1 especially in terms of security within a domain?

First, is there any interface to change that value besides using regedit? I think registry is the only place http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff710472(WS.10).aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff603839(WS.10).aspx Check this http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa383842(v=vs.85).aspx It says"The default value for AllowRemoteRPC is 1. This means that the above issue does not prevent receipt of alert popups on Windows Server 2008. [It also confirms my suspicion that the Vista default is overly restrictive, as the W2K8 team apparently doesn't think it is a security risk. "
