Is there a way to map a webdav drive such that it does not ask you for your credentials the next time you long in ?

Is there a way to map a webdav drive such that it does not ask you for your credentials the next time you long in ?

1) Windows keeps asking for credentials to previously mapped network drives, even though the user's credentials have been saved.

2) Office applications and Adobe Reader keep asking for user credentials when opening files on a mapped WebDAV network drive.

3) Sync Offline files does not work for a mapped WebDAV network drive.

It would be great if a mapped WebDAV network drive was actually treated just as any other as a mapped network drive.

We have saved the user credentials, we have security certificates, we have validated that we trust this site, we want it to be treated as secure just like any other network share, it is after all our server, just because it is cloud based should not alter the way we trust it.

Well first of all there's definitely a way to do it, my work machine has a couple of WebDAV mapped drives configured on it to an external FQDN addressed host and other than when initially configuring it I haven't been prompted for a password since. Trying to remember what if anything we had to do to make it work though...

Within Internet Explorer in the Internet Options settings, go into the Security tab, select Local Intranet, Sites, Advanced, and then add the server address for the webdav drive you're trying to access. Go back to the Security tab, click Custom level... and then right at the bottom check that "Automatic log-on only in Intranet zone" is selected. I think that might do the trick for you.

There's also this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943280/en-us which discusses what seems the same issue, but I'm sure I didn't need to do any reg changes.

Hi, if you can remember what was done to get WebDAV to work without asking for credentials, please let me know.  I would greatly appreciate our users not having this anoying prompt.

I just tried your suggestion of "Within Internet Explorer in the Internet Options settings, go into the Security tab, select Local Intranet, Sites, Advanced, and then add the server address for the webdav drive you're trying to access. Go back to the Security tab, click Custom level... and then right at the bottom check that "Automatic log-on only in Intranet zone" is selected." but sadly I am still being prompted for user credentials when opening documents and when I log in the drives are not connected and I am prompted for user credentials (even thought they are remembered).  There is no automatic log-on as one would expect.

Hi,

I would like to share the following article to see whether it could help:

Vincent Wang,

I really appreciate your help and suggestion, sadly however this does not alter the behaviour.

I found this URL which gave more info but still no success.

http://www.iis.net/learn/publish/using-webdav/using-the-webdav-redirector

I have tried BasicAuthLevel of both 0 and then 1 but neighter helped.

Any further ideas ?
