Is there a way by which we can generate bitlocker Recovery key again ?
Hi, I enabled bitlocker on an external hard drive and saved the recovery key in a USB Flash drive. While setting up bitlocker, I didnt selected "Use a password to unlock the drive" So there was no password set for Bitlocker. It was just USB Flash drive helped me open this drive. Now my USB Flash Drive got corrupted and it was formatted. So is there any way by which I can regenerated or even open the Bitlocker. I remember that one of recovery key copy is stored in my external drive. Since My USB is now not anymore, Can I regenerate the Recovery key ?? Or even can Bitlocker finds its key inside the same drive ?? I am facing huge trouble in unlocking my drive. If I am not able to unlock this external drive then i would loose my important data. Is there any Paid support that can help in this regard ?? Please suggest. Thanks Sam

Hi, The BitLocker Recovery key can be re-created after you unlocking the drive in BitLocker Management window. Since there is no password option and the Recovery Key is missing, I’m afraid that you cannot recreate the key. The only way to get the Recovery key is restore the USB Flash drive data. Thanks, Novak

It seems Like MS is having some sort of Buisness tie ups with these "Passware" Guys. thats why MS says that recovery key cant be generated again and selling the code to get recovery key to other companies. Pathetic

Hi Pathetic, I’m sorry that the symptom is by design since the Recovery key can only be recreated after you typing the correct password and the drive should be accessed. Thanks, Novak

Hey Namak If someone else can break the code then why can't Microsoft itself provide a support for it ?? And how is it possible that someone can break but the developer itself cant help it out ?
