Look to running a check for malware and avoid the use of registry cleaners.. Microsoft Security Essentials SuperAntispyware - http://download.cnet.com/SuperAntiSpyware-Free-Edition/3000-8022_4-10523889.html Windows Defender - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=435BFCE7-DA2B-4A6A-AFA4-F7F14E605A0D&displaylang=en Malwarebytes -www.malwarebytes.org WinPatrol.. This utility will warn if something is trying to sneak into start-up without you knowing. It will also allow you to manage start-up items much better than you can with MSCONFIG.. www.winpatrol.com Netmeter 1.13.. This utility gives totals for network traffic in and out. It will alsomake you aware of any in/out traffic not necessarily instigated by yourself... http://www.softpedia.com/get/Network-Tools/Bandwidth-Tools/NetMeter.shtmlMike Hall MVP - Windows Desktop Experience http://msmvps.com/blogs/mikehall/

Cleaning of theregistry isn't needed and is dangerous. Leave the registry alone anddon't use any registry cleaner. Despite what many people think, andwhat vendors of registry cleaning software try to convince you of,having unused registry entries doesn't really hurt you. The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner erroneouslyremoving an entry you need is far greater than any potential benefitit may have. Read http://www.edbott.com/weblog/archives/000643.htmlAnd alsohttp://blogs.technet.com/markrussinovich/archive/2005/10/02/registry-junk-a-windows-fact-of-life.aspxLet me point out that neither I nor anyone else who warns against theuse of registry cleaners has ever said that they always causeproblems. If they always caused problems, they would disappear fromthe market almost immediately. Many people have used a registrycleaner and never had a problem with it.Rather, the problem with a registry cleaner is that it carries with itthe substantial risk of having a problem. And since there is nobenefit to using a registry cleaner, running that risk is a very badbargain.Ken Blake

I disagree. Most registry cleaners are snake oil however some have been proven to improve performance.Take a look at my independent, community based Registry Cleaner Reviews.I've also written an article on MS Registry Repair.Hope it helps.

However, the response's can also be either "Yes, but...." or "No".Please tell me how the "keith the support engineer" interpreted a response from Mike Hall referring a number of programs as the correct answer. we must all be resolute and determine to maintain this forum for answers. Answers are the primary focus for this forum and opinions are secondary.a moderator should reclassify Mike Halls posting as "helpful" and propose the Steve Winograd's post as the "exact answer" - regardless of opinions for the use of the utility or against it. Regardless, if it helped resolved the problem described and included with the original post but was not a question.db`...>-)))> `...>-)))> share the nirvana mann

I gave the thread another read and I concur with your post. I've marked it appropriately. In the future if you disagree with how something has been marked, I'd suggest clicking the "Report As Abuse" button on the specific post or create a post in Feedback with a link to the thread. It's rare that we come back across older, answered threads like this one (I got lucky on this one!). There is an easy way to handle your problem; maybe you can try the software "tuneup360". My friends and I all use it, which can help you fix all the problems you may encounter.
