Is my copy legit or not?
No, it is not legit! Most copies of Windows sold like this usually have the Activation Key flagged by Microsoft and you can never avtivate it.Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Nothing wrong with the Enterprise version. Outside of the moral issues does it activate? Is it ok to install? I don't see why not if it's being used only on 1 computer. If it was legally obtained by the student I don't see why you couldn't use it.

The whole point is that Enterprise edition is only sold to businesses for use on their own machines and if a license is used by anyone else, it constitutes theft, as well as making that license unavailable to the business. Such a license may work for a period of time but there are two types of Enterprise License, one of which (KMS) requires re-activation every 6 months with the businesss own servers. If the license is of that type it will probably not activate in the first place, and may well not re-activate later. The other type requires activation through the normal MS channels but if the Key is discovered to have leaked it will be cancelled as soon as either MS or the owner finds out, and the installation will eventually be declared invalid, and as a result will be ineligible for various updates, and will lose some functionality. The Key CANNOT have been legally obtained by the student as described. Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi | CrashFixPC | The Three-toed Sloth

My dad bought a copy of Windows 7 enterprise off of craigslist...Gave it to me to install and I realized it was enterprise. I wasn't aware of this version so I googled it and it seems to be a copy that is given out in colleges or businesses. You can tell from the disk that the software was burnt onto it as the microsoft label is light scribed onto the disc as well as the installation code. He bought it from someone at a local college where students have access to free software. My question, moral issues aside, is this ok to install? I am assuming the person who sold it (Student at university) got it from the school and put it onto a CD Thanks

No, don't bother installing that and ask for a refund if you can get a hold of the seller.
