Is it possible to disable or password protect Safe Mode?
Hello, I am working in an environment where the general public have access to Internet terminals. We have installed timing software called PC Reservation that restricts users to 55 minutes of computer use per day.The problem we find is that if a user reboots the machine into Safe Mode and selects "Safe Mode with Networking" she is able to bypass the PC Reservation software because the service does not load in Safe Mode. What I am wondering is:- Is there any way to password protect Safe Mode? (Note that I currently have the BIOS password protected)In my Internet searches I have found software called "NoSafeMode" but the problem is that it disables Safe Mode completely. (even Administrators cannot access Safe Mode)I have also seen mention of renaming some SafeBoot registry keys which I suppose we could consider although this is not ideal. Is there anywhere in Group Policy where we could disable Safe Mode for certain users?Thanks!Jason1 person needs an answerI do too

If you have a BIOS password set, then how are your users even getting to Windows? Make sure the BIOS password is a good one and that you've set both the supervisor password and the user password (if your BIOS offers those options). Also set the boot order to hard drive first. This will prevent people from booting with a Linux password changing CD, etc. If the machine can't be booted with any kind of "rescue" CD, the computer can't be booted from anything but the hard drive (disable booting from USB devices), and users are in an observed area where they can't open up the computer and take out its motherboard battery, you don't need to worry about them getting into Safe Mode. Perhaps the computer itself should be in a locked cabinet (but with sufficient air flow for cooling).MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
