Is it possible to control the startup for programs?
Hey guys,I was just curious if there is some way to control which programs automatically start when you start up your computer.I ask only because it takes my Windows Zero Configuration program (simply lets Microsoft control your wireless internet connection) about 45 seconds longer to load than other programs, which prevents me from using IE8 for that 45 seconds. This really is no big deal, I'm just curious if there is a way to give Zero Config a jumpstart. Thanks guys!-GT1 person needs an answerI do too

If you click Start,Run. Then type.msconfig and clickok. It will bring up a menu with a startup tab at the top.Click the tab and it will show you the programs that run at startup.Be careful what you shut off.Security will not autostart if you turn it off!!!If you have Tools at the end of those tabs you can launch Event Viewer and other programs to check on your system.Hope this helps.

OH man! I phrased the question wrong! What I meant to say is : Is there any way to control the startup order of the programs. i.e. Manually have one program start in front of another, maybe for increased speed. I'm sorry - it was completely my fault. But yes, if it helps any, your answer is exactly correct! :) I appeciate you taking your time to answer my question and apologize for being such a numbskull.-In Jesus Name,GT

Thats ok.I'm not sure you can select what order the programs start.I've never heard of Changing the order that the pc uses to load.It loads everything and until it does.Thats when you take over.I use very few startup programs.Just security and basics. If you think about itas I have done. The sooner the old girl fires up the sooner I am moving.I find it's faster to get it up and running and activate the programs I choose and be up and running than it is to sit and wait for the pc to do it all at once. The more stuff you try to load at startup, the longer it takes.Sometimes when I feel the pc is Lagging.I shut off all the start programs and restart. As far as speed goes. You can tweak your pc with different methods.ie.I didn't get you the link but if you type this into your address bar at the very top. This site has some helpful tips.http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm.Good Luck.

Hello GTbulldog The two free programs below give you some control over programs at startup. I have not tried either of them so I am not sure if you can change the order or only the time.Have a look and see if they are any good to you.StartRightStartup Delayer
