Is Windows only for rent?

Microsoft never sell a copy of Windows to people, but only provide a rent (see the EULA).

Peoples those "claimed their self just bought copy of Windows" actually only rent from Microsoft; They never bought Windows, though Microsoft said "you have purchased a copy of Windows".

Is that true about what I am thinking? If true, so may I say that Microsoft did big lie or would Microsoft stop such big lie?

The case is that you purchase a license to use the software. The money you pay is only for the license and the COA/Product Key. The physical media and/or the software (installed) basically has no cost and is not owned by anyone except for Microsoft.

This also allows Microsoft to prohibit people from redistributing Windows, either as the entire OS, or just files as it is not the right of the user to do so.

Thank you all for the replies ...

That is to say, that Microsoft only sell the license key to unlock the use of Windows, but never sell any copy of Windows neither sell any copy of Windows CD.

Peoples those bought the license key just like bought the ticket to enter the music concert area.

The sad thing is ... many peoples those bought "the license key" to use/unlock-of-use Windows never realize about it (they think purchased an install CD or think just purchased a program from Microsoft, but they actually only rent) (please gona look to most peoples those use legal copy of Windows or pre-installed OEM version of Windows within the laptop products they bought, especially at Indonesia).

My suggestion (if Microsoft want to consider this):

Please confirm with clearly to the public all over the world, that Microsoft never sell any Windows Installer/Setup CD, but only provide the Windows Installer/Setup CD for a rent, and "only sell the license key" to unlock the use of Windows && never say "Thank you for purchasing Windows" but will be fair && true if say "Thank you for purchasing the license key to use this rent copy of Windows". This will much clear and seemingly much fair rather than assessed as a lie.

Many peoples said that "keep trust, honor, and clear statements in business, if want to be a good businessman" isn't it?

Hi,

I would like to explain when you purchase the license key for Windows, Microsoft will provide the installation CD together with the key for setup convenience. If the installation CD is missing, you can contact Microsoft to get a free one.

If you purchase the PC from OEM, Windows will be pre-installed with the license key. If you still need the installation media, you can contact OEM to send it or download iso file online with no additional charge.
