Is Windows 8 Pro Pack language-specific?

I would like to upgrade my PC from Windows 8 (English) to Windows 8 Pro (English).

Can I do that using a "Microsoft Windows 8 Pro Pack Upgrade 32/64-Bit German", which is easy for me to get while staying in Germany, or should I find a Windows 8 Pro pack matching my own language? In other words, is such an upgrade key generic, or language-specific?

Hi,

Please be aware that a new key for Windows 8 pro is required to buy.

Then, we just need to install Windows 8 pro in English, and we can easily add or install language you want:

Language packs are available for Windows 8 and for Windows RT

Hope these could be helpful, if there is any other concern, feel free to contact me.

Keep post.

Kate,

Thank you for your swift reply. I am afraid it does not precisely answer my question, however.

I am aware of that and am willing to buy an upgrade package. I have heard that such a package contains just a printed key and some sort of certificate but no installation media. I was hoping that the key was all I need to upgrade a running Windows 8 (core version) to Windows 8 Pro. I intended to run the "Add features" wizard to enter the new key and see where that would take me.

If the upgrade procedure does not change any language settings, there will be no need for additional language packs.

Now here is my question again: Will the key from a so-called "German" upgrade pack work with an US-English Windows 8 installation? If so, it seems somewhat silly to label the Windows 8 Pro pack in question as "German". If not, and if someone in this forum can confirm this in advance, I will be spared from buying the wrong product. I'd have to find another dealer though.

Hi,

Windows Anytime Upgrade isn't included in this version of Windows. Instead, you can use Add features to Windows 8 to get a different edition.

In Add features to Windows 8, you can get an edition of Windows 8 that has more features than your current edition.

To get a new edition, you need to buy a product keythey're available at electronics stores. Make sure to buy a product key that's specifically for Add features to Windows 8. And you can also buy a product key online in some countries and regions.

Once you buy a product key and enter it into Add features to Windows 8, new features will be added to your PC automatically and you'll have a new edition of Windows 8. Nothing will happen to your apps, files, and settings.

Of course, it will not affect your language settings.

To add more features, please follow this article:

Thank you for your response. Yes, I want to make sure to buy the right key. Would a product identifying as "5VR-00019" be suitable? I am still not sure for two reasons: 1) The description says "Upgrade from Windows 8 (German)" while my OS is an English version. 2) The price tag is substantially lower than what Microsoft asks for an on-line product key. Of course I will be happy to make a good bargain, once I am confident it will work.
