Is Fallout 3 compatible with Windows 8?

So, the more technology advances, the less I seem to know. (Just as a nice little preface, there.)

However, I still enjoy gaming, and would love to purchase Fallout 3 (GOTY edition) for my new Dell Inspiron, which is running on Windows 8. Fallout 3 GOTY edition specifies it's for Vista/XP, and I've seen a few questions on here regarding its compatibility with Windows 7, but so far, nothing on 8. Does anyone happen to know if that game will work on Windows 8? I'd like to find out before actually buying the game, as I'd have no other way to play it, except on this new laptop.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Such a shame! Thanks for the link. I'll try to keep tabs on Bethesda.

On another note -- do software/gaming companies often rerelease games, made to work with newer systems? Just curious.

I don't see a definitive answer, although it may well run.

Do companies re-release games for new OSes? I've seen it done (Lucasarts, for example), but I doubt that it's common. Probably doesn't do enough for revenue.

Thanks again!

I plan on at least buying New Vegas soon, though I was really hoping to get F3.

I appreciate your help!

not sure if you got this fixed, but a few places seem to believe this is related to Games For Windows Live - either installing it or making use of some kind of dll, e.g.

I haven't tried either myself, but it looks promising at least.

after a bit of research myself, not wanting to bother to install third party software, I found another answers site where someone suggested a simple fix that converted me from a fallout 3 on windows 8 that would not even open, to fully working, Xbox live compatible fallout 3.

all you have to do is perform a custom install of Fallout 3.

Now when it suggests the installation path, choose a different directory, and install it in something like C:/Fallout 3.

The problems seem to come from it being loaded from the Program Files directory.

If this fixes the problems encountered by others, seems a much better fix then installing third party mods.
