Ipconfig /renew does not change ip address on a LAN with 2003 Server and XP clients
So I am a network administrator for a network of 60 Windows XP clients with our domain controllers running Windows Server 2003. I sometimes have to reimage the computers using a stock image using Symantec Ghost. Anyways, once I do this, I then have to rejoin the computer to the network. When I do though, it tells me that there is another computer on the network with the same ip address. When I go to cmd->ipconfig /release-> then ipconfig /renew. But when I do this, this computer just gets the same ip address. I would prefer that the server automatically assign ip addresses, but do I have to go into DHCP or WINS or DNS to delete the ip address? Or is there something different? 1 person needs an answerI do too

You need to make the Pc Adapter to look and retrieve the IP address by going to it Internet TCP/IP properties on the NIC card then Reboot the machine and see if it will be assigned a new IP address by the router.nass -- http://www.nasstec.co.uk

The computer keeps retrieving the same IP address, and I don't understand what you are trying to say. I want the computer to retrieve a completely different IP address, instead of the one it has now, which matches another on the network already.thanks

To view the cache entries, type any one of the following commands:arp -aarp -gTo delete the entries, type the following command:arp -d IP addressTo flush the ARP cache, type the following command:netsh interface ip delete arpcacheMethod 4: Use the Arp tool to clear the ARP cachehttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/314067nass -- http://www.nasstec.co.uk
