Internet stops working randomly.
Hi,I am using Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate with all updates applied. After about 12 hours of uptime my internet stops working. My network connections is perfectly fine and bitorrent clients, Internet Relay Chat programs and text messaging services like Windows Live Messenger are still working but only internet stops working. Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer 7 just display "page cannot be found" error when I try to access any website. This gets fixed as soon as I reboot my machine. My computer specs are :AMD X2 3800+ @2.5 GHz2 GB DDR500 CorsairNvidia 7900GS Gigabyte K8NF-9 (rev 1.xx) MotherboardPlease help because having to restart so often is very annoying. My uptime on Windows XP used to be in "Days" but I can hardly keep my computer running for 6 hours now.

I have exactly the same problem; searched on google for: vista "internet stops working" and found this. This happens to me on a regular basis. If I am using my computer on a continual basis it will work indefinitely (12+ hours), but if I leave it alone (I simply lock my system and turn my monitor off) for a period of 4+ hours the net goes down; i.e., gadgets no longer are able to get out, internet explorer/firefox no longer can get out. The odd thing is, I can ping out still. I do believe it to be a vista issue, but can't put my finger on it as of yet. I have a dual-boot and have no such issues within XP... again, the odd thing is I can ping and resolve DNs.Note: I am on a wireless network connection, and have attempted "repairing" the connection and disconnecting/reconnecting the connection. I use a static IP system, so releasing/renewing does nothing. I have also attempted flushing the dns cache, but to no avail. Again, I can ping out with no issues. Only resident connections (ones that have absolute continual activity) still appear to function.

Hi! I have the same problem. Got my new Dell with Vista Home Premium last week and i get this problem every day. Very annoying since i can't find a solution to it and it just seems like no one at Microsoft seem to have a clue about what's wrong. I also have a neighbour with exactly the same problem. It's just like you say MSN and stuff like that still works but web browsing just stops working, i use both Opera and IE7 and it's the same problem with both of them. /notbugs

I tried everything mentioned in this thread and nothing seems to work for me. Internet stops working randomly after 1 and between 2 days of uptime. Never went past 2 days of uptime. My first guess was that the torrent client starts up too many tcp connections and just kills the connection but tried without any torrent client after a fresh install of Windows and it still did that. So I'm out of solutions. I'm running Windows Vista X64 ultimate.

I am in the same boat with you guys. New DELL dual core with Visat Business. I daytrade and have a lot a data feed coming in over the WLAN. I at 1st thought it was the WLAN on the LINKSYS. I checked my other wireless machines around the house (all on XP) and they were working fine. I had been killing the WNIC card and turning it back on to slove the issue. I had turned off IPv6. Still does the same after a while. I also have the WLAN locking up when I connect my Motorola Que connects to the Bluetooth. ISSUES. Also, one question about connecting to more than one Workgroup at a time. On my XP machines I have the local WLAN workgroup and I also have a need to VPN to an office connections that is running a different workgroup name. On XP no issue and I had to do nothing more than connect and do a discovery. With Vista it does not find the other workgroup. Yes I do have LLTD installed on the XP machines in the other workgroup. Any ideas?

On the console prompt, type:netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabledTo reenable it, type:netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normalOn my computer, the net drops are somehow related to internet connection sharing. I have 2 ethernet NICs, one is connected to the router, the other one is used from time to time to connect my laptop.Internet connection sharing is activated, so the notebook will surf via the PCs network connection.I discovered that if I disable ICS after internet access failed, it worked again flawlessly.I suppose disabling ICS resets some stuff within the network stack, although I haven't dug any deeper.

Hello, since installing Vista Business my internet goes out every 15-30 minutes for about 5-10 minutes at a time. I am also on a domain. I never lose connection with my server and mapped drives, but the internet will go out constantly...then come back by itself about 5-10 minutes later. I have tried all of the fixes in this thread, and other ones I found on the web. I disabled the QOS and the IPv6 and did the netsh thing and some other stuff. It may help for awhile, however when I disable QOS and IPv6 I can no longer access my server and network shares/mapped drives. I did not have any issues when this machine was XP Pro, and there is nothing wrong with our router. Thanks for any info.

Check out the thread "Vista & Wireless: How To Solve Local Access Only ?" on this forum. There's a lot more to an Internet connection than meets the eye. Especially, a lot more than a few settings that can be changed.

I am havin exact same issua. Just month ago, Vista Ultimate 32 started to drop connectionafter 4-8hours usage, usually it drops arround 14:00 and 21:00 but is not that exact. When a wake up I have to reboot my pc to gain browser access. Nothing else helps than reboot of the machine and browsers work again. Other protocols irc torrent and such work with no problem, is this related to internet connection limits or something? I am using Sunbelt firewall, AVG antivirus. Please Microsoft, fix this issue as soon as possible!

easy fix for me. running xp and vista on 3 machines. create a user on each machine. make sure each machine has all the same users. done. i tried to do this many other ways and found this tip on the internet. the problem (apparently) was that xp requires a password and vista does not) so i just created a user called 'hippy' on each machine and magically the operating systems took care of the rest...sounds too good to be true but - IT WORKED.
