Internet speedtest is extremely fast, but browsing is extremely slow ?

Hi there,

So for the past months my internet has been really slow.  I kind of stuck with it as I thought it would get better, but now can no longer deal with it any longer. So I checked on speedtest.net what my speed was and its really good fine: 51.01 mbps. Like going onto websites that have a lot of images, scripts takes FOREVER to come up, however, even trying to go onto google or speedtest.com takes forever as well.

Here are details that might help any of you to understand more, as well as a list of what I've been doing :

  • I use Internet Explorer
  • Computer is Windows 8
  • I have cleared all cache, history, data, still not helping

These are the properties of my network:

Protocol: 802.11n
Security type: WPA2-Personal
IPv4 address: 192.168.0.21
IPv4 DNS Servers: 194.168.4.100
 194.168.8.100
Manufacturer: Qualcomm Atheros Communications Inc.
Description: Qualcomm Atheros AR956x Wireless Network Adapter
Driver version: 10.0.0.270

  • I also ran cmd: sfc/scannow      & the results that came up showed that these files were corrupt?      Should I be concerned?

Failed to internally open package. [HRESULT = 0x800f0805 - CBS_E_INVALID_PACKAGE]

Failed to OpenPackage using worker session [HRESULT = 0x800f0805]

>> This appeared everywhere in the CBS.log

  • My IPv4 / 6 are both on automatic
  • Changing it to manual and typing in IP addresses [found on other forums] still do not work
  • Also, to note, maybe the most important thing is that my internet works perfectly in safe mode with networking ? I also disabled all services (hide all Microsoft services) & these are the startup icons, not sure if they are a problem.

Anyone know what my problem is? Would be great if you could help

Thank you!!

Hmmm this seems oddly familiar to the thread you created about a month ago here.

The exact same actually, and you marked it as answered and said thanks for the help. Are you having a different issue? This reads like its the exact same, if your original issue was not fixed then please delete this thread, unmark the previous one as answered and continue on that thread. Otherwise this will get marked a duplicate question by an admin and roll it into your previous thread.

Hiya,

No this is on a Windows 8 Toshiba laptop - I have also tried what I was told to try on my computer but it hasn't worked, that's why I thought to ask on a forum

Hi Uzma,

As you mentioned, it works perfectly in Safe mode with Network. It might be caused by some third-party software or service. I would like to suggest you perform a Clean Boot to confirm it:

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Meanwhile, run Internet Explorer 11 in No Add-ons mode by running the Run command from the Start menu, and then typing iexplore.exe -extoff into the box.

2.Check if the issue persists.

If yes , open Internet Explorer for the desktop, click the Tools menu, and click Manage Add-ons.

3.Click Toolbars and Extensions, click each toolbar or extension, clicking Disable to turn off all of the browser extensions and toolbars.

4.Restart Internet Explorer 11. Go back to the Manage Add-Ons window and turn on each item, one-by-one.

After you turn each item back on, see if Internet Explorer crashes or slows down. Doing it this way will help you identify the add-on that's causing Internet Explorer to crash.

After you've figured out which add-on was causing the problem, turn it off until you have an update from the manufacturer.

In addition, loading image and script indeed take more time than blank webpage.

You say that its been a few months and that its fine during safe mode.

One question, is only Internet slow or is everything?

* Download Malwarebytes (Free) and then run a scan.  You might have malware.

* Check the Task Manager and see if there is any process that is hogging your CPU (on idle, your System Idle processes should be about 98%)

Further isolate the problem:

* Download another browser such as Firefox.  Does your Internet run at the same speed?  If it still runs slow, there's something else going on.

Might be a name resolution issue: Download DNSBench and you can see what your fastest DNS servers are

https://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm

Not that its a problem per se but your DNS servers are both with Virgin Media in Great Britain.  Usually most people with a home wireless router will get their router IP as their DNS server and the router will get its DNS from their ISP.
