Internet sharing between laptop and PC
Hello, My pc has windows 7 ultimate. My netbook has windows 7 starter. I have pppoe internet on my pc. I want to share the pc's pppoe connection with my netbook by ethernet cable. I have done this and everything seems ok but I can not browse internet on my netbook ! - Both of them are in the same workgroup. - I have used Internet Connection Sharing for the PPPOE connection and selected my lan as the home network connection. This sets the ip of my lan to 192.168.137.1 . My netbook was set to automatically assing IP. I couldn't browse internet in this situtaion, I tried to assign manually ip for my netbook : ip : 192.168.137.2 subnet : 255.255.255.0 default gateway : 192.168.137.1 I coundn't browse internet in this situtaion too ! But I can see my pc, copy files from shared folder, use the shared printer. What is the error from ? It is really annoying !!! Thanks

Hi, When configuring ICS on Windows 7, you should set to automatically assign IP address on each machine. After that, please change Internet settings for ICS. 1.Open Internet Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Network and Internet, and then clicking Internet Options. 2.Click the Connections tab, and then click Never dial a connection. 3.Click LAN Settings. 4.Under Automatic configuration, clear the Automatically detect settings and Use automatic configuration script check boxes. 5.Under Proxy server, clear the Use a proxy server for your LAN check box. Can Internet be accessed now? Why the technical manager suggest you to reinstall the system? Thanks, Novak Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. I think it would be better if you don't use your PC as the ICS server cause it will consume more power than router. may I know your modem type and brand to check whether came with modem or not, please? Warmest regards, Ap

Please see what is occuring : I have deleted all network adapters from device manager, then refresh it to reinstall them ( force reset the settings ). There are 2 network connections : local area connection -> My home network local area connection 2 -> The PPPoE network I enabled ICS for the PPPoE connection and this set the IPv4 of local area connection to 192.168.137.1 . My netbook is set to assing automatic Ip. When I ping 192.168.137.1 in my netbook, it says : PING transmit failed. General failure PING transmit failed. General failure PING transmit failed. This is while the pc and netbook are connected with Ethernet Cable and my netbook wireless is disabled. Hi Ghadamyari, I believe the solution is as simple as your physical architecture or how computer #2 is connected to the host. 1. Use a CROSSOVER ethernet cable from the network card of the host to computer #2. (It has one wire connected differently than an ethernet cable) 2. Connect a router to the host network card with a standard ethernet cable and connect computer #2 to the router. 3. Install a wireless network adapter in the host computer and connect computer #2 wirelessly. Here's a diagram: http://www.homenethelp.com/ics/ics-install-arch.asp Then, your now well educated configuration skills will be successful.
