Internet problem (wi-fi)

Hello,

I have this laptop: ACER

Intel I7-3630QM 2.4GHz

NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M 2GB

8GB RAM

1TB SSHD

Atheros Wi-fi card

Till yesterday my internet connection worked just fine, but since this morning, it seems like, every few minutes the internet drops for a few seconds (it still appears like is connected (through wifi) and i have internet access, but i don't have internet, i can't connect to any website and even if I play an online game, every few minutes (even seconds) I get very high ping (probably internet is dropping)) What could be the problem, because I really don't know what to do? (Laptop is half a year old and I use Windows 8.1)

Thank you for your time.

Just guessing, you have Acer V3 edition which comes with Windows 8. Since you use 8.1 please find update driver for your Atheros Wi-fi card

I have the driver for 8.1. I tried to connect directly through wire and when i tried to create my connection that needs username and password, i got error 651, so I believe there's a problem with my wire? Although when i connected through my router but with a wire it worked (same problems like the wifi connection), but directly without router...error 651.

Hi

Right click on broadband connections [WAN Miniport(PPPOE)] and un-check set as default. Maybe you set your broadband connection as default. Or you can check at your network and sharing setting and delete all connection and create again.

I suggest also reset the router to check, and try safe mode with networking as well. Or maybe some 3rd party software like torrent maybe cause for this issue. Try to do clean boot and monitor this issue

Help me reply with all result for that all TS

I unchecked "set as default" but still error 651. I tried also to delete all my connection and creating them again, still error 651. I restarted my router like 15 times so, no improvement. When my internet drops i don't use 3rd party software so it's not that. But, I tried the safe mode with internet and, after a quick browsing, internet is working pretty good. Still, the problem is more visible when I try to play an online game (which in safe mode i can't), so i can't tell you for sure if now it's really OK. Yes, browsing is going well, which could indicate i don't know, a problem with my laptop, but i recently re-installed windows 7 on a laptop and i had same issue (on my router's network) with that clean freshly installed windows. Regarding the 651 error i called my provider and they told me to wait cause they'll check for the problem...

RobertHehn,

It would appear after looking at this TechNet forum thread that a 651 error like youre experiencing is usually caused by network adapter driver issues or security software that might be blocking the internet connection.

However, since the error is occurring when you are wired to the router with your Windows 8.1 computer and also with your Windows 7 computer, my recommendation is to try connecting directly to your modem though a wired connection.  Also, ensure the firewall or any other software (antivirus, etc.) arent preventing a connection on both your Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 computers.

If youre able to connect while directly connected to the modem, I would then suggest a reset of your router back to its factory default settings; you might even consider a different wireless router in known working condition.

If for some reason you still cannot connect to the internet even directly though the modem, you might consider contacting your provider since the issue could be with the modem or even physical connection.

Thank you for your answer. That error 651 I get when I try to connect directly with my provider cable (it comes directly from them). If i connect through my router (with a wire through LAN) I'm able to connect, but i still have the problem with the internet dropping.  So, again, i get error 651 when i connect through my provider's wire. I contacted them and I wait for their answer.

Hi

lets try to fix it from ISP side first.

But I curious when you mention  in safe mode with networking you still able to browsing without facing drop connection issue, this symptom mostly cause by 3rd party application or malware virus something like that. But you also mention you have another laptop which is fresh install and have the same issue? this symptom mostly is router setting or ISP issue.

But we cant confirm anything yet right now. Lets wait the result from your ISP.

But since we wait some update info from ISP, can you do clean boot and scan your both PC and monitor both in safe mode with networking?

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

I'll scan my PC now.

After Eset Smart Security 7 scan: nothing found.
