Internet explorer 8 plante
It is wrong to think that this is a bug in Windows and search each time a solution to the so-called problem.

Pyanepsion - Exactly what is IE doing when you close it? Please give us more to go on... Is it crashing? Hanging?

OC ? What is this?In google translation : Internet explorer has stopped working. Windows looks for a solution. It is not blocking, except during the time of the search procedure of solution.

Pardon - "OC" means "overclock" - that is to raise the clocking speed of the memory in the computer's BIOS.Kris

My PC is normal. No overclocking. AMD 64 bits 3500+ Pehaps the 64 bits ? possibly, *IF* the BIOS is set to run that chip at 64 bits. This is beyond my knowledge. Hopefully an MVP can step in here.Kris

Kris and Pyanepsion - No... The Athlon 64 chip shouldn't be the cause of the problem.. And the BIOS for the motherboards that run that particular chip don't have anything that would either limit the chip to 32 or 64 bits. It runs whatever OS it encounters on boot and does whatever it's told. I have an Athlon 64 3400+ chip in the computer I'm using for the RC and I don't get those kinds of errors unless the web page itself is causing problems.Pyanepsion - It may be that one or more of the add-ons you've got installed may be having problems. Click on Start | All Programs | Accesories | System Tools and select Internet Explorer (No Addons) and see if IE still misbehaves when you shut it down.If that doesn't cure the problem, try this. Launch Internet Explorer and press ALT. This will bring up the IE 8 menu. Click Tools |Internet Options and the Advanced tab. Click on the button at the bottom marked "Reset" in the Reset Internet Explorer section. This will return IE to it's original state.

My newer P45 UD3P mobo has HPET support which is set for 32 bit or 64bit ("Vista only")(means only "6.x" opsyses are capable of using this setting) My older P35 T2RL mobo does not have this. Hope that helps.Kris

Kris - And I'm guessing that's an Intel board. That's like comparing the proverbial apples and oranges. Pyanepsion's board is likely socket 939 or maybe AM2 - and thus is about 2-4 years old. These boards didn't have any special Vista only settings as they came out mostly before Vista was even released to the world as Beta 2... The only settings related to an OS on any of my AMDboards would be a redundant setting for telling it you're running OS/2 with more than 64 MB of RAM.
