Internet connection problem 1 computer out of 5 hardwired
I have a network set up (hardwired) on 5 computers, 4 of which are on line, Windows XP Pro all same software installed. We have a few portable computers that connect to the network and go online (wireless) with no problem. The 5th hardwired computer hooks up to the network fine, communicates with the other computers through LanChat but does not connect online. Thanks in advance for any help!1 person got this answerI do too

control panel network connections and LAN settings card right click, properties then right click on the line Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)Check to see if the IP addy is set to auto or has it been set to possible the same as 1 of the other devices in the network.Setting an ip to say 192.168.x.34 [ x = 0 or 1 , depending on your on connection via the router/modem] Check the DNS settings aren't looking for another incorrect setting alsoThis could be set to auto like the IP settings or similar to the IP 192.168.x.1 [ x = 0 or 1] Hope this opens a bit up for you

I checked all the IP's from all the computers. Non seem to have the same IP address, all go up sequentially from. 192.---.---.1.64 to 192.---.---.1.70. No conflicts in System properties with the card. All the Subnet masks & default gateways are identical, but I am assuming that is not a problem as the other puters work fine.On running ipconfig/all on the computer not working, I have the following information under Ethernet adapter local area connection:Connection specific dns Suffex : Domain InvalidDescription: Intel pro /1000 mt network ConnectionPhysical Address:00-----------81Dhcp enabled yesautoconfiguration enabled YesIP Address: 192.---.---.1.70subnet mask-default gateway-DHCP Server- Same as gatewayDNS servers- 192.---.3.1 192.---.3.7 I checked two of the systems that are on line and found the only discrepancy to be in the DNS Servers Both are the same) which is 192.---.1.254 Could the problem lie in that? How do I set that up?

By changing the DNS servers to match the other computers online, I was able to solve the problem. We do thank all the responders that answered this post and I will be sure to post any other problems that come up. Thanks again! Anyone else having this problem check the DNS name and number against any other computers on the network (run CMD- ipconfig/all)
