Internet activity stops while focus is on computer game
Hi, I've recently done a fresh install of vista, installed all updates including SP1 that are available, put my programs and whatnot on the PC and now I've noticed a strange problem. First noticed when I was playing an mmo, I could play for a few seconds then all the people would pause and I couldn't attack anything, so I alt tab out of the game and put a download screen on my second monitor so I can watch it, it's fine while I'm alt tabbed out of the game, I go back into the game and I watch the speed of the download drop to 0 after a few seconds. I've tried all the games I have installed, they all do it, some online ones work a little bit, but heaps of lag and eventually unplayable, and I have no idea what's causing the problem. My connection basically just dies when any game is being played =/ Any help would be greatly appreciated =D

This behavior can be caused the installed anti-virus and firewall. I suggest that you disable the anti-virus and firewall, then test if the issue persists. If the issue still occurs, please temporary uninstall the anti-virus, and check the performance again. If the issue reoccurs, I suggest that you boot in Clean Boot to troubleshoot. Clean boot=================Lets disable all startup items and third party services when booting. This method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading program or service. Please perform the following steps: 1. Click the Start Button type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box, and then press Enter. Note: If prompted, please click Continue on the User Account Control (UAC) window.2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). 3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". Then, restart the computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK. Please test this issue in the Clean Boot environment, if the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue. However, if the issue occurs in Clean Boot Mode, please upgrade your network adapter driver. Hope it helps.
