Internet Explorer and Media Player - Two glaring weaknesses.
After running Windows 7 for a few weeks now -I'm sold. I love the OS - it works - it's fast - it's reliable -etc.. There appear to be no killer apps as part of this OS - butthere are so many minor modifications / improvements that the all-up experience is fantastic.Inside this fantastic platform, there appear to be 2 glaring weaknesses...(1) IE - Performanceis bad. Itlocks up regularly. Occassionally i'll click a link - and nothing happens - it just sitsthere. While it now has support for InPrivate browsing and some other neat things - it still feels old and ugly - and like it's playing catch-up with other browser competitors.(2) Media Player - It's time this thing gets a refresh. Has anyone heard if something big is happening in this space? Both of these applications appear outdated and really stand out inside a platform with so many positive changes.Am I alone in thinking there are some visual / UX / Performance issues in both of these Applications...

No doubt we'll get a version for W7 in due course - perhaps when W7 goes to RC1.I don't use WMP much, so can't really comment.Thack

WMP12 is booty. However, I do believe that MS will get this right as the media experience is a primary concern for everyday consumers. I will see how 7022 reacts when I load it inside a VM.
Ditto for IE8. It is not as bad as WMP, but close. However, with the right polish and clear coat, I think it will be quite good in its finished incarnation.

agreed - both need 'polish' if they want to fit into the all-up windows 7 experience... Even - dare i say - put a little Zune player style into WMP - those artist skins are great... Regardless, IE needs to be tweaked for performance sake, and needs to be polished as well... I've looked at competitive browsers recently (some just recently shipping) and I'm impressed - IE needs that same clean / easy to use interface...WMP needs an overhaul in a bad way.fingers crossed...

I'm afraid my feedback wouldlikely be of little value:(1) Make IE not crash(2) Clean it up - technology is 9 parts usability / design 1 part performance & reliability(3) Make WMP usable... Make it pretty... (that artist screen saver thing inside the Zune player is beautiful). If i had anything specific to call out I would. I'm not a design guy, just a guy who looks at one browser compared to another and makes a call as to which one looks better / is more responsive... If anything strikes me as a must-have, i'll let you know...
