Internet Explorer Icon
My desktop doesn't have an Internet Explorer Icon, I can get a shortcut to the desktop but not the real system Icon. If I go to show or hide system Icons where the Recycle Bin, My Documents etc... its not in there either. Anyone else have this problem or a fix? Thanks

I'm pretty sure it had to be removed because of the antitrust case. Obviously puttinga shortcut on the desktop still provides the same functionality. All the more reason to use the one on the taskbar to take advantage of Windows 7's new Quick Launch/Taskbar interface.

Thanks, I didn't know they had removed it from the desktop completely. I do have it pinned to the taskbar, guess I was just used to seeing it on all the other versions of Windows.

Hi captdoug To be completely accurate, it was removed as an optional Desktop icon, simply because of theexpanded functionality of the newTaskbar. Hope this helps. Ronnie Vernon MVP

Ronnie Vernon MVPThat sounds reasonable, but are you sure it has nothing to do with yet another accusation from the EU against MS for still shipping IE with the Windows releases? :-pBBC News said:Saturday, 17 January 2009 Microsoft is accused by EU again The European Commission has accused Microsoft of harming competition by bundling its Internet Explorer browser with its Windows operating system.

Hi frop Yes, I'm sure. Removing the capability of placing a shortcut to IE on the desktop would do nothing to remove IE from Windows, would it? The IE icon is placed on the taskbar, by default when you install Windows 7. Regards, Ronnie Vernon MVP

Maybe MS is trying to dodge the bullet by hiding it a bit out of sight. Anyway, I was just joking around a bit. Everybody knows how to install a different browser nowadays, so I see no objection to MS providing one. Not to mention it's going to be difficult downloading another browser without IE! :-D

However you cant remove IE like you can with Firefox....I think that was the EU's problem. But meh, the 2 co-exist fine and I prefer IE for iPlayer so I dont see the big deal really.
