Internet Explorer 8 Bugs (under Win 7 Beta)
Sorry if this post is in the wrong place but I couldn't find a forum where this would seem to fit.I've found two persistent bugs in IE 8 on Windows 7 that I hope are corrected before final release:1). 1&1 Webmail pages: Every time I login to my webmail account ( http://webmail.1and1.com ) and open a message, it tries to open in a new browser window, but that windows requires login again. I login and it takes me to the main screen where I try to open a message again. It opens a new window and I'm prompted to login again. This becomes a never ending cycle.2). Adobe Reader (latest version of Reader Only): Every time I click on a .pdf file on a web page, A warning immediately pops-up that Adobe Reader cannot display the file - I click OK - the window closes and it opens the PDF file just fine. Not sure why, but it seems to be working fine despite the warning message that pops-up each time.

Hello, For the first question, it is mostly caused by the web page coding; I suggest that you should test the issue in some third-party web browsers such as Firefox, Opera, etc and test in Internet Explorer 8 on another computer to double-confirm whether it is an Internet Explorer 8 related problem. For the second question, the warning might be popped by the Adobe Reader software; you'd better remove and reinstall the application to see whether it works. In addition, since I cannot find an Adobe Reader product for Windows 7 on the official website, could you please provide a download hyperlink for my further research? To short the troubleshooting process, you'd better contact its support directly to check whether the version is compatible with Windows 7. Hope the information helps!

Caused by the web page coding? Of course, it must be... since Internet Explorer 8 could not possibly be at fault! What was I thinking? I'll approach the problem using the Microsoft troubleshooting methodology: Since I use Firefox about 90% of the time and have experienced no problems at all with it on Windows 7 Beta... and since every web browser that renders using the international standards of HTML 4 have no problems with http://webmail.1and1.com, the only possible solution is to have the developers at 1&1 change the coding on their web page to conform to the needs of IE8. Correct?Adobe Reader v. 8.1.3 works fine and is supported under all versions of Windows Vista with or without SP1 - http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4084 - and IE 7, but there is no mention of Win7 or IE8 because they are both still in BETA. Since it actually works fine after the pop-up message, the issue is just a minor annoyance. I'm sure Adobe will eventually change their perfectly good application to conform to the new Microsoft order.

I also use 1nd1.com and I'm not experiencing this problem, not in normal mode, or in compatibility mode. I can use the webmail service without any problems. How are your tab settings preferences in IE8 set up? Perhaps it has something to do with how you have set IE8 to deal with tabs. Have you instructed IE8 to 'Open new tabs in current window' & 'Always switch to new tabs when they are created'?

Andy, I've had similar problems with Internet Explorer just plain "flaking out" on pages which make heavy use of Java and multimedia as well as the issue with Adobe Reader. This is NOT, as I see it, a true coding issue as you seem to put forth. (In a rather annoyinglycondescending manner, I might add.) Firefox (Ver 3.xx) allows pages to display perfectly and without the lockups so frequently experienced with I.E. It would be noexaggeration for me to say that on a *daily* basis, my box sends out a minimum of 15 error reports and 2/3rds are generated by IE. This is especially a problem on 'social networking sites such as myyearbook.com, facebook and myspace in addition to 'plain' sites such as M$nbc, CNN, MSN.com, and here, on Technet. Sure enough, when I switch to Firefox or even Safari, the problems vanish. (Apologies for using the "S" word, but you gotta use what WORKS and it does, in fact, WORK.) Granted, this is a beta, so some problems are to be expected. However, that does not excuse M$oft. M$oft is supposed to be head and shoulders above all others and over the last couple years or so, that reputation has begun to erode and your attitude, Andy, as displayed in your reply, is strongly indicative of M$oft's problems in general-you go in thinking everything is perfect and everyone else is not, therefore the problems are NOT due to M$oft's shoddy programming techniques.

HP Deskjet, thanks for your input. I'll experiment with those settings later. It's good to know that it is working for someone else so there must be a solution. All my settings and preferences are at their default values. I have purposefully not changed anything in my IE8 up till now (except for the home page) so that the results of my testing would not be tainted in any way. If it takes some tweaking to get this to work, it may solve my problem but the bigger picture is what I'm concerned about.
