Internet Explorer 7 keeps wanting to install same plugins
Customer upgraded from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit and has been having issues with plugins in Internet Explorer 7. She has installed the latest flash player and it has completed successfully, but every time she goes to a web site that has a flash animation, she gets asked to install the plugin again. Her system is also having issues with Windows Explorer locking up during file search operations so effectively she is unable to search for files on her computer. If I can't fix it, it wasn't broke!

Windows 7 does not have Internet Explorer 7, it has Internet Explorer 8. Did she actually do an inplace upgrade from Vista to 7, or did she do a clean install of Win 7. There are lots of cases of problems resulting from doing an upgrade because there are too many little things left over that actually cause problems. The best thing to do would be to do a clean install of Windows 7. You can use the Windows Easy Transfer to save files and setting, but be careful about what get retored afterwards.

Hi gearjammer, As Rick mentioned, in Windows 7, the Internet Explorer version is 8 instead of 7. Please check the browser's version by going to Help -> About Internet Explorer. If the version is correct, please try uninstalling Adobe Flash Player and then reinstall it by the steps below to see if the issue can be resolved: 1. Close all instances of Internet Explorer. 2. Click Start, type "%SystemRoot%\system32\Macromed" (without the quotation marks) in the Search box and press Enter. 3. Right click the Flash folder, click Rename, type "Flash.old" (without the quotation marks) and press Enter. 4. Please go to the following link to download and install the latest Adobe Flash Player to your Desktop: Adobe Flash Player Please Note: The third-party product discussed here is manufactured by a company that is independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability. Also, if your Windows 7 is x64 version, please refer to this website: Flash Player support on 64-bit operating systems Regarding the Windows Explorer locking up issue, try the following suggestions: 1. Download ShellExView v1.41 from the following link http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.zip Please Note: The third-party product discussed here is manufactured by a company that is independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability. 2. Right-click the "shexview.zip" file, select "Extract All", the Extraction Wizard will prompt. 3. Click Next, input "C:\ShellExView" (without the quotation marks) in the "Files will be extracted to this directory" textbox. 4. Click Next and click Finnish. 5. Open the "C:\ShellExView" folder and double-click the "shexview.exe" file. It will scan the registry for all the shell extensions. 6. Select all the non-Microsoft extensions in pink by press "Ctrl" in the keyboard. 7. Click the "Disable Selected Items" on the toolbar and click Yes. 8. Restart your computer and check if the issue is resolved. If the issue persists, access Clean Boot to check the issue. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, you can continue to narrow down which entry is causing the issue. Hope this helps.
