Internet Explorer - Page Cannot be Displayed.
Hi All, We have a combination of Dell (two models) and one HP computers setup in atleast three different lab spaces where I am seeing this issue. Not all computers in a lab have this issue but the ones that do change and sporadically users are unable to go online. The Dell's are running Windows 7 and have IE8 and the HP machines run Xp and IE7. Unfortunately, there is no real pattern on when this happens. The fix is restart the computer and they are able to go online. A re-logon does not help. Network resources are available through mapped drives even when it complains that the page cannot be displayed. I would appreciate it if anyone had any suggestions on how to tackle this issue. Other troubleshooting steps I have performed are to run an ipconfig/release renew, DNS release and DNS register but to no avail. The next time this happens, I am going to try to perform an IE settings reset and see if that helps. Thanks in advance.

Hi, Please check if it failed to display all the website or just the special one. First, I suggest booting the computer in Clean Boot to test the issue. If the issue still exists in Clean Boot mode, please reset Internet Explorer 8 by the steps below: Reset Internet Explorer =============== Note: the following steps will remove all of installed add-ons and reset IE to default settings. We need to reinstall the add-ons after resetting. 1. Click "Start", type "inetcpl.cpl" (without quotation marks) into “Search” bar and press "Enter" to open the “Internet Options” window. 2. Switch to the "Advanced" tab. 3. Click "Reset…" to reset Internet Explorer settings. 4. Check "Delete personal settings" box and click "Reset" to confirm the operation. 5. Click "Close" when the resetting process is complete. 6. Close the Internet Explorer window and restart IE to check the issue. Hi Sabrina, Thank you for the suggestions. I would try the clean boot except that causes a reboot which automatically fixes the issue. Like I had mentioned earlier, I am going to try IE settings reset. It is the sporadic nature that has me frustrated as it cannot be replicated and is a huge annoyance when it happens as the fix for now seems to be a restart.

Hi Sabrina, I figured what the problem was. There was a machine that exhibited the same issue and I tried reset IE settings to no avail and then I ran an ipconfig/all and there I saw that there was an extra entry in the default gateway which was 0.0.0.0 and on further investigation, I found that it was due to the Bonjour service which was installed either as a part of Skype or Quicktime which caused the bonjour service to run and so I ran mdnsresponder.exe -remove followed by a route delete 0.0.0.0 and then an ipconfig/release/renew and voila! everything was hunky dory again!
