Internet Connection Sharing issue with Vista and XP computers.
I have a host computer , running Windows XP service pack 3, with a Virgin Mobile Broadband2Go modem, And a laptop running Vista. The host computer is connected to a Microsoft MN-700 via a CAT5 network cable. The laptop is connected via a wireless connection. I am trying to share the Broadband2Go internet connection using Internet Connection Sharing. I have turned on the sharing on the network connection, on the host computer. But the laptop will not connect to the internet. I can ping the host, from the laptop, but cannot ping the laptop from the host. I have tried everything that I can think of, to get the network working. It was working, until Thursday. On Thursday, there were some Automatic Updates installed on the host computer. They were security updates. I do not know if the security updates would have affected the network, or not. Any helkp would be appreciated. Thank you,Oscar1 person needs an answerI do too

This is a complicated setup, because the both the host computer and the MN-700 can act as routers and DHCP servers, making it uncertain which one is giving the laptop its TCP/IP configuration. Here are two ways go get it to work:Use the MN-700 as a router: Connect the host computer to the MN-700's "To Modem" port. For this to work, the MN-700's LAN interface must have an IP address in a different subnet than the 192.168.0.x subnet that ICS uses. The laptop will be able to ping the host, but the host won't be able to ping the laptop. or:Use the MN-700 as an access point only, not as a router: Connect the host computer to one of the MN-700's Ethernet ports and disable the MN-700's built-in DHCP server. Both computers should be able to ping each other.Boulder Computer MavenMicrosoft Most Valuable Professional

I set up the MN-700 as an access point, and that did the trick. Thanks for your help.
