Internet Connection Drops After ~1-2 Hrs
In both the beta and the RC of Win 7, my internet connection works fine for an hour or two, then stops without any notice other than the fact that the web browser begins saying it can't access whatever web address I'm trying to get to. Running the troubleshooter gives the answer that maybe there's something wrong with my DNS setup. Nothing I do helps except a restart.I'm connecting using Sprint EVDO Rev A over a Samsung router. This problem has remained constant not only through the beta and RC, but between two different LAN cards.I don't experience any such problems with XP.

I have a similar issue, I did find a relatively quick way to fix this. I am working from memory here so feel free to correct me if I make any errors I will correct any myself when I get home If wired: 1. Open up the Networking and Sharing Center (you can do this by mouseing over the network icon on the taskbar and clicking on the link) 2. Find the network you are connected to and click on the Local Area Connection link 3. When the new window pops up click on Disable (located on the lower part of the dialog box) 4. Go back to the network icon on the task bar and click diagnose problem or find solution 5. Let it find the problem and then click perform these repairs as an administrator and this should solve the problem If wireless: Just try reconnecting A wired reconnect feature would be nice patch but they need to fix the underlining problem whatever it may be.

Hi, Thank you for your posts. If it is possible, you can bypass the router, connect this Windows 7 RC computer directly to Internet and check if the issue reoccurs. Hope this helps. Nicholas Li - MSFT

I have the same problem, I am using Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN minicard...worked fine with vista...but in RC1 simply reconnecting doesn't work what works is1-Restarting...and I am practically doing that every other hour!!!!2-For some reason the troubleshooter end indisabling the wifi adapter !!!! I knew that when it suddenly asked me to plugether cable when I never had one..so at this point I can go to Network and Sharing and just enable it...but If I personally try todisable then enable the adapter the disabling process freezes mysystem...I really hopesomeone comes one up with a better solution...and bye for noe coz I am due to restart in half an hour:)

Hi, Please try the following: 1. Please check if there is a Windows 7 driver for Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN minicard. If so, please try it. 2. Disable Save Power function of the NIC: 1) Click Start, right click on Computer and choose Properties. 2) Click Device Manager. 3) Navigate to the NIC, right click on it and choose Properties. 4) Choose Power Management tab. 5) Please uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." 6) Restart the computer and check if it works. Hope this helps. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT

I'm confused. Doesn't the EVDO device use cellular service to connect? Shouldn't this be 2 separate connections?

Try disabling realtime protection in Windows Security Essentials I had the exact same issue on my Windows 7 64 bit install. After hours of searching to see what was causing the issue, I found that Windows Security Essentials was the problem. Internet started working normal again after disabling realtime protection. Since my internet worked just fine after just installing Windows 7, it's probably some update to security essentials that messed some things up. Let me know if this solves your issues...
