InternetExplorer 8 deletes irregular without user interaction Cookies
Hello, we have some strange problems here in company. Within InternetExplorer 8 Cookies are irregular deleted. All other temporary Internet files like GIF, JPG, HTML Pages and so on are retained. Some users have this bad problem every 10 minutes. Other Windows 7 users have this problem 3-4 times a day. Other Windows 7 users never had this problems, that Cookies are deleted automatically. This drives us nuts, as on login sites username and password has to be put inside every 10 minutes. Right now, Im running out of ideas. The option "Clean Cache" when closing Internet Explorer is not activated. Also I checked scheduled tasks. There is no cleanup tasks scheduled. Also I have set the cache for temporay Internet files to 1000 MB. But nothing helps on the affected computers. Does someone have an clue and point me to the right direction? Thanks in advance for your help.

I can only say that you should compare the IE8 configuration on the never had a problem and the problem computer. Also, the av\security software settings. Check Tools, Internet options, Security tab for default level, or add the needed sites to the Trusted Zone. On the Privacy tab, is the slider on Medium? On the problem computer, check Safety, is In-Private filtering turned on. Ctrl + Shift + F toggles this on and off. Perhaps it was toggled on by the users of the problem computers.

Hi, Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet Forum. After checking this issue, I want to confirm if you tried to reset Internet Explorer 8 settings to check the result. If you want to remain logged in and save your passwords to certain sites, make sure AutoComplete is turned on in IE 8. Go to Tools > Internet Options and click open the Content tab. Under "AutoComplete" click settings and check the box titled "User names and passwords on forms. Also, please you could try to allow cookies from specific websites, for more information, you could refer to: Block or allow cookies from specific websites Also check the Group Policy Settings: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc985351.aspx Hope it helps. Hello, until now, I found no issue. The computers which are working and which have this problem are in the same OU, also the corresponding users. Also, the site which have this problems is via GroupPolicy set to "Trusted Sites". Also the same antivirus solution (Microsoft ForeFront) is everywhere installed. What is very strange, that some users reporting this wednesday every 10 minutes were the cookies deleted. But yesterday they reported it happens only 3 times. The privacy slider is set on the clients to Medium. So, right now, I don't have an clue, what to check more. Best regards

Hi, Thanks for update. I notice that all computers are in same OU; in order to find what the culprit is, please check the following: 1. Leave and rejoin a problematic client to this domain to check if the issue persists. 2. Create a new user and logon to the computer which encounters this issue. If the issue doesn’t occur, please also check the difference between the new created user and the existed user which meets this issue. 3. Add a new installed Windows 7 computer to this OU, logon with the account which meets this issue and see how it works. I also suspect that there is something wrong with Internet Explorer 8, I would like to share the following link with you: Tips for solving problems with Internet Explorer Meanwhile, just for a test, please try enabling and configuring the Prevent Deleting Cookies policy with Internet Explorer 8 via Group Policy. Hope it helps. Alex Zhao TechNet Subscriber Support in forum. Hi Alex, thanks for your reply. I was not able to solve the issue. Im still looking for a solution. Rejoining the Domain didn't solve the issue. Also not a new profile for the user. Computers and users which are in the same OU as the problematic client don't have this issue. Im personally with my computer and user in the same OU, but never encountered this issue. Also I have resetted the Internet Explorer settings on that particular client. But sadly this doesn't help. About enabling the policy "Prevent Deleting Cookies" this I have not tried. This should be able to set it for the particular client, when I set via regedit.exe the settings in this key, or? HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ Best regards.

I am begining to think this may be a Forefront scan because of the regular occurrence (every 10 minutes). What does the Forefront Console reports show for the affected client(s)? Is Windows Defender still running on the affected clients? Perhaps the policies didn't take on the problem clients. Just a thought for something to check. It seems IE8 security settings are not the cause.

Hello, I have checked the problematic client. Only ForeFront is active. Windows Defender is not activated. Also in the ForeFront Log is for example from today no entry. It is not every day every 10 minutes. It may be, that on one day, it orcurs only 5 times per day. I have checked via gpresults, the policies are applied. Best regards

Now on the left hand side, expand Administrative Templatesà Windows Componentsà Internet Explorer and choose Delete Browsing History. 3. Enable prevent deleting cookies. 4. Restart Internet Explorer 8. If the issue persists, I suggest you use process monitor to monitor your problematic computer. You could run this tool till you find which operation lead to your issue.
