Intermittent incomplete network failure windows 7 64 bit
Windows 7 64 bit . Network connection to 2003 SBS Domain. Using latest drivers for Realtek adapter on Workstation. Once a day network browsing, internet connection and outlook network connection stop working. Interestingly during this time I can ping the Server and IPConfig gives the proper network address for the machine as well as the DNS address for the server. I have changed Antivirus programs (from Symantec to Avast), limited IP to V4, changed the router, even reverted to old network driver, but the problem still happens intermittently. Mapped network shares still work during this time, but I cannot browse the network or internet, or remote control any other compters when this happens. No other computers on the network have this probem. Other machines include XP and Vista Machines. Either restarting or loging off and on seems to correct the problem. Would appreciate suggestions to point me in the direction to solve this.

I have a cable tester, and also the Gigabyte motheboard GA EX58-D4 tests for line integrety. I had a Vista machine successfully connecting on this location until the Gigabyte replaced it 3 months ago. I think the cable is OK. The NIC is another story. There are some reports of the NIC failing on this board, but the Realtek diagnostic runs normal results. When if fails it should just not work. I could replace it with an older Backup NIC (Intel Pro). Why would the IP address, DNS, and pinging all work if it was card failure? I have heard that Bonjour (I have Itunes) can cause problems with networks as it changes the DHCP and causes the Gateway to change to 0.0.0.0 This could cause problems like this, but I removed Bonjour from the system completely. I have heard that Quicktime may do this also, but I don't know if there is truth in that.

When I deployed my web server over the weekend I found a bad NIC was slowing down performance to a crawl. Removing the bad NIC and finding another cured the problem and the machine now runs well. I have also see a fair amount of bad wire. If you are still using CAT 5, go get some CAT 6A and see if that helps the situation. Elected! Your votes and support have got me my 2010 MVP!
