Intel processor power management

Hello,

I'm a Student and ask for support to:

What options are offered by Windows 8.1 (or 7) to minimize energy consumption of Intel processors (preferably Haswell CPUs => eg Core i3/5/7, or Broadwell CPUs) by reducing the frequency and voltage and/or converting single/all cores of the processor in a sleep state?

Is this possible to manage out of an application program?

Thank you

Manfred

I do not think that the required functionality is available to general user. Consult it in MSDN forum/fora as well as with someone more knowledgeable in the field of Windows Internals.Regards

Hi scratchM,

You could adjust Processor performance and power option by using processor power policy and Processor power management validation tools such as powercfg command. However I didnt found a Minimum processor state and Maximum processor state value specific to sleep mode.

Processor power policy on Windows

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/dn613985(v=vs.85).aspx

Powercfg Command-Line Options

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh824902.aspx

The link of Processor power policy on Windows applies to Windows 7, but I checked that and it doesnt changed a lot in Windows 8.1

Im not sure about third party application but it is out of our recommendation.
