Intel Wifi Link 1000 BGN, Lenovo T410, Wireless not working, An Unexpected Error Occurred
Thread was started in the Windows Community and I'm posting here for duplication. Original thread: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7network/thread/9cd4d62a-53fa-4479-bc5b-1fcf6b93dbc4 ------------- I've tried to setup a Lenovo T410 using Windows 7 Enterprise. However, when I try to setup a network (we use 802.1x network) I get a "Unexpected error has occurred" message. I cannot setup ANY wireless network on this machine. I've had to re-image our other two. (Today; setting up machine) At first, I pointed the Network Controller (Ethernet already working) to a network share where we keep the extracted versions of the wireless drivers from Lenovo. They have been updated as recently as 1 week ago (1/28/2011) because we keep seeing this issue. It installed the driver and shows up as "Working Properly" in Device Manager. It was at this point that I noticed this error. ------------- Per a suggestion on my other post, I've tried the following: 1) Disable Antivirus 2) Re-register %systemroot%\system32\netshell.dll 3) Re-register %systemroot%\system32\ole32.dll None have been successful so far. ------------- On this machine, I have installed a partial list of the Lenovo driver/software packages. So far, I've installed the Hotkey and Power Manager packages. On a previous system where I had this problem, I ran the Lenovo System Update utility until all items were installed. Even at that point, the issue isn't resolved. Access Connections gets me the closest to what I believe is the root of the problem. When installed, you have a software option (F5) to toggle the radio states. The wireless adapter shows in the list as OFF. When I click the button to enable the radio, nothing happens--no errors, no change in state. ------------- I've also installed the drivers from Intel (latest). Driver Information: Driver Provider: Intel Driver Date: 10/18/2010 Driver version: 13.4.0.9 This installed the Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility in the system tray. Opening it reveals the following error: "No Supported WiFi adapters available in the system" I could not post a picture here, but I have one of the Device Manager with the adapter present, the Properties Window next to it on the Drivers tab and the Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility opened next to it reading "No Supported WiFi adapters available in system" with a butto for "Troubleshoot...". The button reveals no help as it believes I need to install an adapter. All options with regards to "Connect", "Properties", "Refresh" and "Wifi On" are greyed out on the utility window. ------------- A known working OS works in this machine, so hardware is not the issue. The wireless switch (physical) is also enabled.

We were able to resolve the issue. The problem was with our VPN software (Checkpoint Endpoint Security R75). In the instances where the problem occurred, it was installed (via Ethernet) before the Wireless driver was added. I'm assuming there's some issue with the OS managing the hardware when the VPN virtual adapter has already been created. I am able to remove the VPN adapter and re-install successfully.
